21 - Something Sinister Brews

Elowen knocked on Reyna's door after the weekend. She missed having her best friend around. She loved hanging out with Kyrell and Thane but there's nothing like having their witch time together. She frowned when she didn't answer her door. She must already be in the main hall, she thought walking out of the dorm to find Thane and Kyrell waiting for her.

"Have you seen Lucian?" She asked as they shook their heads.

"No, he wasn't in his rooms, what about Reyna?" Thane asked and she shook her head.

"She's not here either. I wonder what happened? They were only going home for the weekend."

"Do you think something happened with Reyna's change?" Kyrell asked as they walked into the main hall.

"Yeah, maybe she died. She's not a real demon. My parents said she's an abomination and the Magics council shouldn't stand for a false demon in the realm." Nyx smirked as she walked passed them with the rest of the demon society.

"She's not a false demon, Nyx and you and the rest of the society know it." Thane growled his eyes deepening to black.

"Well we'll see about that, if she even survived her change." She smirked walking away from them the dwindling demon clique following after her. All except Lucy who stayed behind.

"Lucy, come on." Nyx called after her.

"I'll catch up." She smiled and Nyx shrugged continuing down the hall.

"What's going on Lucy? Are you alright?" Thane asked noticing the black tears welling in her eyes.

"I'm worried about Nyx, she's going crazy over Reyna and Lucian. I...I think she's going to do something drastic and I don't feel right being part of it." She said as she burst into tears. Thane pulled her in his arms and the group quickly went into an empty classroom.

"What are you talking about?" Elowen as helping her to sit down, she formed a glass of water and handed it to her.

"Th...thank you, she sighed taking a drink of water, the parasite that attacked Reyna was because of the demon cubes. They were laced with some dark magic that I've never felt before. I didn't think anything of it at the time, until the parasite attacked Reyna. I can't get her screams out of my head, it's my fault. I should've stopped Nyx." She cried putting her head in her hands. The trio looked at each other in shock at her confession.

"It wasn't your fault, Lucy. It's Nyx, what do you think she's going to do now?" Thane asked and she shook her head.

"I don't know, but she's been talking to her clan in the mortal realm. They're the ones that gave her the laced cubes. She's going to attack Reyna again, she's going to kill her demon and I...I can't do this anymore. The demon society was supposed to be about having pride in being a demon, yes we're arrogant and vain but we never *hurt* anyone. I should've left when you did, Thane. You and Lucian were smart to leave. I'm sorry for everything I said to you. Our clan would not be happy if they knew what the society is like now." She said shaking her head, wiping her tears.

"You don't have to stay in the society, Lucy. No one is forcing you, a lot of demons left after Thane and Lucian." Elowen said putting her hand over hers.

Lucy squeezed her hand and smiled sadly, "I can't leave, I'm...I'm afraid of what Nyx and the others will do. She's supposed to be my best friend, but I...I don't know anymore."

"Luce, I'm worried about you. This isn't like you to be this afraid of anything. What have you seen?" Thane asked.

"I can't talk about it here, can you meet me in the forest where Reyna and Lucian practice tonight?" She asked and they nodded.
