The Lost Otsutsuki

Back to Konoha

The next morning Mayumi found my things missing from the house. She rushed to Hikarus bedroom.
"Hikaru! Wake up!"
"What the hell, why are you screaming?!" He sat up on his bed scratching his head.
"Have you seen Akari?"
"No, I literally just woke up. What's wrong, Mayumi?!" He asked when he realized she wasn't joking this time.
"I messed up." Hikaru jumped from the bed and ran after Mayumi.
"Hey, wait! Can you explain what happened?!"
"I have to find her! " she said and ran to the woods, disappearing before Hikaru could catch up.

Three days later they returned to Konoha. Barely speaking to each other.  Mayumi stopped at the gates before stepping in.
"You okay? Hikaru put his hand on Mayumis shoulder. She looked up.
"What?"
"I said, are you okay?" She shook her head.
"Come on, dummy. I'll walk you home. You should rest."
"I have to report."
"We can do it later."
"I should do it now." She hugged Hikaru. "Thanks, buddy, for everything." And she headed to the Hokages office.

She waited by the door for some anbu guys to leave the office. She heard Kakashis voice in the room. Thank god, he was there. Mayumi walked in nervous and confused, not knowing what to say.

"Hey guys!" She said with a fake smile. Naruto jumped from his chair.
"Mayumi, you're back!"
"He sounds more excited than me." Said Kakashi and hugged his fiancé. "So happy you're back, doofus!" Mayumi smiled at him.
"You guys are late, you know!" Naruto smiled with his teeth showing. "Where's Akari?!"
"Naruto... she's not here." she avoided facing him. Kakashi realized everything just by looking at her. But Naruto wasn't giving up.
"Why didn't she come to see me? Was she tired?"
"Naruto, I think she meant that.... Akari hasn't returned to the village with them." Kakashi wrapped his arm around his fiancé, comforting her. Naruto was confused.
"Mayumi..."
"I'm sorry." She said after a while. Naruto smiled.
"Come on, seriously, where is she?"
"I have no idea." Kakashi noticed that she was really upset.
"Why don't we go home, Mayumi. You need to rest and we can talk about this later. Right Naruto?"
"Wait, guys.."
"Right, Naruto?!" Kakashi repeated with a deady smile.
"Yea, Right.. "

They walked out of the office, leaving Naruto alone and guessing. What did she mean by that?! Some guy opened the door.
"Lord Seventh, can we discuss tomorrow's mission? "
"Huh, what?"
"Can we discuss tomorrow's mission, lord?"
"Oh, sure, come in..."

Mayumi was sitting on their bed, freshly showered, with a towel wrapped on her body.
Kakashi brought her some tea and kissed her on a forehead. Mayumi grabbed his arm.
"Stay.."
"I'll get some snacks for you."
"No, I'm not hungry. Just stay." Kakashi smiled and got in bed with her. Mayumi kissed him passionately. "I missed you."
"You realize you're naked while saying that, right?" Mayumi chuckled.
"You're still a perv."

Kakashi played with her wet hair, gently touching her skin.
"You wanna talk about it?" He asked. Mayumi put her head on his chest.
"Yes.. and no."
"Are you worried about Naruto? He really likes her."
"I should be, but I'm worried about myself. You know, I never had much friends, but Akari became one of them real quick. We had so much fun together!" She smiled, running her fingers on Kakashis chest. "She's my kind of person.. but.. but we hurt each other. Said some things that we can't take back and the next morning she was gone. I keep thinking that it's my fault."
"Don't say that."
"I gave her one night to think and she left. Maybe I was too hard on her."
"I can't see how's that your fault. She made her choice, Mayumi. You're a good friend. You waited for her to come back for three days, but she didn't." Mayumi buried her face in Kakashis neck, mumbling.
"I feel shitty!"
"That's natural. I wonder how's Naruto doing right now."
"He must be feeling shittier."

He was standing by the Ichi raku's, under the street lights. Kosuke noticed him from the restaurant and decided to say hi cuz he wasn't moving at all.
"Um, good evening, Lord Seventh!"
"Huh?" Naruto raised his head. "Oh, hey."
"Is everything okay, lord?" Kosuke asked smiling. Naruto was staring at him until it felt awkward.
"You're friends with Akari."
"Yes." Kosuke got suspicious due to Narutos face expression. "Is Akari okay?!"
"Do you know where Hikaru lives?"
"Yea."
"We need to find him."

Hikaru told the whole story. Kosuke was staring at both of them waiting for someone to explain everything. Naruto was looking at his glass of sake.
"I'm sorry guys.." said Hikaru after a while.
"What the hell?!" Kosuke hit the table with his fist. "She wouldn't do such thing! That's bullshit! Maybe she came back!"
"Kosuke, we spent three days looking for her. It's like she disappeared."
"Maybe three days weren't enough!"
"Don't say that around Mayumi! She thinks it's her fault that Akari left. They became really close and now.. Mayumi is hurting really bad."

Naruto took a sip, listening to their conversation and staring at the table, never speaking a word.
"I feel like something's missing." Kosuke wasn't giving up.
"I've told you the whole story. I wish I knew the reason she did this but.. I'm sorry. I don't. I know how you guys feel, I care about her too, but she made her choice."
"Thank you, Hikaru." Naruto said all of a sudden. "It's late so I should get going."

He left. Kosuke ran after him in the streets.
"Wait, Lord Seventh!" Naruto stopped. "Please, send me on the mission to find her!"
"You heard him, Kosuke. She made her choice."
"I just have to find her, this doesn't sound like Akari I know. She would never do such thing!"
"Sometimes our loved ones disappoint us." Kosuke could feel how badly Naruto was hurting. He was hiding his pain with a fake smile.
"Lord Seventh... I..I shouldn't be the one to tell you this but I have to. You have to know." Kosuke scratched his head. "Akari would never do such thing, because..." he mumbled. It was way harder than he thought.
"Well, it doesn't matter cause she did. Goodnight, Kosuke." Naruto walked away but Kosuke said out loud.
"Akari would never leave cause she's madly in love with you!" Naruto stopped.
"She's what?"
"She should be the one to tell you this. I just.. I just don't want you to give up on her." 
"I'd feel better if you never told me that, you know." Naruto shrug his shoulders. "Goodnight, Kosuke."

I watched him walk away from Kosuke, heading towards his house. Alone.. like he always was...
I told him he deserved to be happy, but I was the one to take away his happiness. A tear rolled down my cheek.
"Are you okay, sis?" Ogen asked holding my hand.
"I'll be fine." I looked at them one more time, realizing how much I hurt each one of them. I couldn't bear this pain in my chest anymore.
"Let's go, Ogen. Take me home."
