"just because you can't see him, doesn't mean he's not real!"
"where is he?! what have you done to him?! johnny! johnny please!"
"don't do it kenz..i'm here. i was always here. you just, couldn't see me"
"i'm gonna get you out of her...
only what's lost in her mind, can become real in the future.
mackenzie was miserable the past three days. she sat in her room not ever wanting to leave. she didn't listen to what her doctor told her about taking the medicine, she didn't want to leave her self vulnerable for when the guards came for her. and she knew they were.
doctor pierce called them today, and it wasn't pretty. the warden was getting sick of her acting out behavior and was completely not addressing the fact that in her mind, she had lost her best friend.
if he would just look at it the way she does, johnny is like an imaginary friend. only she can see him and mackenzie is perfectly fine with that.
"okay! just because you guys can't see him, doesn't mean he's not real!" mackenzie spat at one of her visitors. she was already riled up from the fight she had to put up with earlier.
"mackenzie..we all want you to get better. please, you have to work with them to just let this go" mackenzie's friend maisy spoke.
mackenzie shook her head and turned her eyes away from the metal bars that were between them. "you don't know what they do to me here. you don't know that i can't get better without...him" mackenzie's eyes watered up, she has yet to see johnny return.
"then tell me. what do they do to you here?" mackenzie shook her head again, "it doesn't matter. you wouldn't believe me if i told you"
"how are your dreams kenz? are they good?" maisy pushed, trying to find something happy left in her. but maisy would never be able to understand. she's out, in the world with her friends. she's living a happy life with her family while mackenzie is stuck in isolation, only being able to see one of her friends once a week. and that's if they even come. some of them don't even bother to see her.
"they're bad mais..and it's getting worse" maisy tensed up in the chair she was sitting in once seeing the warden walk behind mackenzie. "mackenzie, it's time to go take your medicine" mackenzie flinched once he gently placed his hands on her arms, guiding her to her doctor out the room.
that's when maisy noticed her wrists. they had purple markings all around them.
she could understand now that mackenzie was being hurt. and she was going to find a way to help her.
mackenzie was resisting once again. she didn't want to take the pill, she hated being hurt so easily. but her doctor just watched as the guards tore her away from him and went down the hall to enter the training room. mackenzie screamed for help, she screamed for her doctor and she screamed for johnny, who she was wishing so badly had shown up.
not that he could do anything besides tell her what she wants. he could never physically touch her, putting mackenzie's nerves on high at some moments.
after the guards put mackenzie through a series of mental tests, she was sent back to her room. mackenzie didn't very much like it in there anymore and she wished that it was all a dream. her having this "disease" was the worst thing ever.
mackenzie cried softly in a corner of her room, afraid to even touch her bed. blood still stained her sheets from when she stabbed one of the guards with a pencil.
doctor pierce kept a close eye on her throughout the rest of the day, and since the warden allowed her no food for the night, pierce had to sneak her some of his. which mackenzie was very grateful for.
laundry day wasn't until tomorrow so mackenzie chose to sleep on the floor for the fourth time this week.
doctor pierce stood outside her room, watching until she fell asleep. he thought to himself about how he could make it better for her, because ever since she took those pills she's been acting differently. doctor pierce didn't realize before that she hadn't taken them up until she told him, where now he has to watch her take them.
he thought that the medicine that was being given to her affected her head, maybe that's what was wrong. but he isn't allowed to make commentary like this to the warden, so he would have to come up with a plan. a plan to save mackenzie.
