> "it was just a misunderstanding. i'm okay."
"that's good to hear," hendery tried to smile, but ten knew he was worried. "you said his name was johnny?"
ten nodded. "yeah, i remember him... we pretended like we didn't see each other though, to keep each other safe. but there's no point since i'm telling you now, huh?"
"i wouldn't hurt him," hendery glanced around before lowering his voice. "but i'm sure he would..."
he motioned towards the youngest member, who stood at the far end of the room talking to dejun.
"yangyang? but he looks harmless."
"that's everyone's first thought, but i heard that he survived a lot of games... it's crazy," hendery said. "i also heard that he was a gamer before he was entered... must be pretty natural for him then. look out for johnny."
ten followed his gaze to the boy. now, he didn't look as dangerous as hendery made him out to be. in fact, he looked quite the opposite.
yangyang was thin and couldn't have been older than 20. his hair was a clean, natural brown and his eyes shone warmly. ten watched as he threw his head back laughing at something dejun said.
"johnny's like two feet taller than him, i don't know what you're talking about," ten crossed his arms. "anyway... when are we heading out?"
"in a few minutes."
hendery looked down to wrap his hands. without the proper training, he wondered how he would perform on the battlefield. the same went for the rest of the new players. but at the same time, survival instincts could really change a person... people turn out to be more vicious than they think.
"we're heading to the city," team leader kun announced as he entered the room. "observe the other players, alright? pick out the weakest ones."
hendery swallowed. the city was the most active location in the game—no doubt someone was going to die there first.
yangyang was quick to enter the portal, which sat glowing in the corner. hendery gazed into the cloudy abyss that the others were disappearing through.
