Newt woke up alone. His face was lying pressed against the cold floor and he could feel hot tears streaming down his face. He didn't know how long he'd been passed out. It could've been minutes but hours as well. He slowly sat up rubbing his hand on his cheek to wipe out the tear stains. The ache in his leg was still there but now only as a dull throb. He looked around, the corridor was still empty, he guessed that no one had come here since he fainted, or if they did they didn't tell anyone or just ignored him.
It was an effort to stand up. His leg didn't hurt, he could barely feel it at all. He didn't know if he stood on it or not. He took a deep breath and leaned against the wall. This school wasn't any better than his old one, the bullies would just repeat itself and he would end up falling back into that dark pit he had been in. He had no idea what to do now though. He wouldn't be able to get through the rest of the school day without his leg brace but he couldn't walk home either. He had to get in contact with someone. He hauled his phone up from his pocket and saw what time it was. 9:47. He had only been past out for around 15 minutes, that wasn't very long. He hadn't missed his next class yet. If he just could get his leg back in motion he could continue the day, even if all he just wanted was to go home.
He dialed Thomas number.
"Hey Newt!" Thomas quickly answered.
"Hi..." Newt whispered. He realized that he actually had no idea what to say.
"Is something wrong?" Thomas asked. "We have a class together soon, I thought you'd be here now?"
"I..uhm..." Newt swallowed hard. "I can't move,"
"What do you mean?" Thomas suddenly sounded really worried.
"Some guys were just making a joke or something but...they took my leg brace," Newt could feel a lump in his throat and his eyes burned with tears. he sounded so pathetic right now. Why could his leg just be normal and he wouldn't have to deal with this bugging problem. But of course he couldn't blame his leg because it was his decision to jump off that building. He would've been better off dead anyway.
"Are they insane?" Thomas shouted at the other end of the phone. Newt winced, he didn't want anyone to hear his and Thomas conversation. " I know which guys goes to your class, I'm gonna get your leg brace back, okay? Will you be alright on your own? Are you in pain? Should I get a nurse too? Where are you?"
Newt felt suffocated by all the questions. "No I'm okay I just can't walk without it," he said after fighting with his brain to get a clear answer for all of Thomas questions.
"Are you sure?" Thomas asked, he sounded worried.
"Yeah, I can stay here," Newt whispered. "Bye," he hung up before Thomas could say anything else. He didn't want to talk anymore. He had made a complete fool of himself. Slowly, he sunk down to the floor, his bad leg outstretched in front of him. It felt weird not having it tensed with help of the leg brace. Now it felt all jiggly and weak. That leg had much less muscles than the one that actually worked.
"Newt?" The blond haired boy looked up when he heard his voice being called. Alby was walking toward him in the corridor. "Hey man, what are you still doing here?" he sounded worried.
Newt didn't answer, he didn't want anyone else to think that he was weak, not anyone else than Thomas.
"Hey..buddy?" Alby stopped in front of him but Newt kept his gaze on the ground. "Newt?" Alby crouched down and touched his shoulder. Newt felt his whole body flinch at the surprising touch and he gasped loudly. Alby quickly took a step back and raised his hands over his head to show Newt that he wouldn't touch him again. Newt took a deep breath and he felt his heart race going back to normal.
"I'm sorry," Alby whispered. "Are you okay? Hey where's your...leg brace?"
Newt swallowed but finally met the dark skinned boys eyes. "I'm fine," he said. "You can go shower, Thomas comes soon," That's all he said before turning his eyes back on the floor again. Alby sighed, he knew that Newt wouldn't say anything else so he turned around and walked into the locker room.
It felt like ages before Thomas suddenly stood beside him, the leg brace was in his hand. "Here," he said. "Are you okay man?" Newt stayed quiet while he arranged the leg brace on his leg. He immediately felt better when The leg was straight and stuck in position.
"I'm fine, let's go to class," Newt said and stood up, he didn't meet Thomas gaze.
"Are you sure?" Thomas asked. Newt didn't answer him. "And uh...I told mum what happened, Alby texted me that the PE teacher made you run even though you shouldn't do it so she's coming after school to talk to him and the principal, she wants both of you and me to be there," Newt only sighed. This day would only get worse.

"HOW COULD YOU LET HIM RUN WHEN HE HAS A LEG BRACE?! Lara yelled into Mr James face. Her face was red from anger and he could practically see smoke coming out from her ears. Thomas had only seen his mom thid angry a few times in his entire life.
They were sitting in the principals office, the principal was sitting at her desk and Mr James and Lara was standing beside it, arguing about Newt. Newt himself and Thomas were sitting on two chairs beside each others.
"I didn't know it would affect him so much," Mr James said.
"Oh my god I don't belive you!" Lara said. "He has a leg brace, wouldn't that be enough for him to not put pressure on the leg?"
"I...I..." Mr James looked at the principal for help.
"Mr James, I have to agree with Mrs O'Brien on this," Lydia said. ' I told you that Newton has an injury and that he is in no shape to put more pressure on it,"
"But its just a little but of running," Mr James said.
"A little but of running?" Lara said and her voice sounded pitched. "A little bit of running could've caused the boy to never walk on his leg again!"
"Fine!" Mr James finally gave in. "I'm sorry, it won't happen again,"
"I hope you're right," Lara hissed at him.
"So do I," Lydia said. "Now you can leave," Mr James nodded and left the room.
Lydia turned her attention to Newt and Thomas. "Well, I heard that a few boys in Newts PE class stole his leg brace as a "joke" and hid it in the boys bathroom," she said. Newt stared at the door so Thomas nodded.
"That is not an acceptable behaviour," Lydia continued. "All I need to know is the boys name,"
"It's Rick Gordon, Danny Grey and Gally Galileo," Thomas answered quickly.
"Thank you," Lydia said. "That's all I need to know for now and you and me will keep in contact what to do about it," she looked at Lara who nodded.
"Great," Lydia said and stood up from her seat. "That's all for now, thank you for coming," They shook hands before leaving.
"I have to go back to work but you can take the car home, right?" Lara said. Thomas nodded.
"Okay, bye mom," He said. She smiled warmly at them before thet split up.

"You okay?" Thomas asked Newt when they entered the jeep. Newt nodded. He didn't really feel like talking. Thomas kept quiet for while but he wanted to ease the tension. He had no idea how though. Suddenly an idea popped into his head.
"Hey Newt?" He said. Newt looked up at him. " What do you call a belt with a clock on it?" Newt looked confused.
Thomas continued."A waist of time,"
Newt thought it was a stupid joke, but still he did something that Thomas thought was the mot beautiful thing in the world, he laughed.
