They said it was an infection. They said that they hadn't discovered it until it had spread to the lungs. And they bad been the ones who said that he would make it. But now, when Thomas, Teresa and Lara were sitting in the small hospital room with Newt on the bed besides them, they were the ones who said that it was a low chance for him to survive. The blonde boy was breathing with help of a ventilator. They had said that he may never be able to breathe without it again.

Thomas didn't know what to do or to say. He was just staring down at the white sheets. He wasn't crying, he just felt numb. Lara had silent tears running down her face, she was holding a hand on Newts leg in a way to comfort him. Teresa was on her phone, she had cried before and she wanted to get her mind off things.

It had been a day since the party, a day since Newt and Thomas had kissed. A day since Thomas's whole world shattered. It felt like he was going insane. The non endless beaping of the heart monitor and the loud noises of the ventilator never seemed to leave his head even when he was out from the room. Doctors had come and went but in Thomas's mind everything stayed the same. Newt hadn't woken up. He wouldn't wake up until they took him off the ventilator. He had been to an operation already and if that or  the fluids the doctors hadn't put in his body to help him heal didn't work...nothing would help him. All they had to do was to wait. For how long? No one knew. The doctors had told them to try to keep going with their normal life as much as they could but Thomas had no idea of how to do that.

Lara had to force Thomas to go to school on monday. She pushed him out of the door and almost threw him out of the car when she dropped him off. They had to keep going on as if nothing had changed. But for Thomas everything had changed. In those feew weeks as Newt had been living with them, Thomas had started to fall in love with him and when he finally was able to kiss him...this happened. Thomas didn't know what to think anymore.

He walked through the endless hallway, the beeping still audible in his ears. When he felt a hand on his shoulder he almost blacked out from the fear.

"Hey dude it's just me!" Thomas looked up and saw Minho stand in front of him with a worried expression plastered on his face.

"Oh," Thomas whispered. "Hey Minho," he forced a smile.

"How are you holding up?" Minho said. "You haven't texted me since saturday,"

Thomas took a deep breath. "I'm scared," Thomas almost whined. "I'm so scared I'll lose him," He could feel tears welling up in his eyes but he blinked them away. "I'm in love with him,"

Minhos eyes widened and he gently squeezed Thomas's shoulder. "I think he'll be okay," he said reassuringly. "Newts strong, he'll make it through this,"

Thomas smiled slightly, a genuinely smile this time. "I really hope you're right,"

Nothing changed. Same routine. Wake up, school, hospital, go home, eat, sleep, school, hospital, go home, eat sleep. Thomas was growing more and more scared. Even though nothing was changing to the worse for Newt, nothing changed to the better either. The heart monitor kept on beeping in the same pace, the breaths came out just like they used to. Nothing changed. And that worried Thomas. Not only him though, Lara was growing more and more nervous each day and each time they visited Newt she looked more and more helpless. Teresa didn't really show much emotions. She was sad of course but she still tried to go on with her life. Thomas could see that something was weighing her down though. It was the same thing weighting all of them down.
