3rd Person POV:
Marcellus soon grew to be envious of Adryan, as he was next in line for the throne. Though their bond grew strained, their one common factor was their love of Raelynn. She always put a smile on both of their faces, and brought them joy and happiness. Then one day, it all changed.
Marcellus' POV:
I have had it with Adryan and all his stupid games. No one ever listens to me anymore. Ever since Raelynn was born, her and Adryan have always been the center of attention. No one cares about my opinion or takes my perspective into consideration. All they care about are the two golden children of the family. Oh, perfect little Adryan, he could never make any mistakes, he's perfect. I sat down on my plush bed, in the middle of my quarters, and looked out of the window. I could see the whole fae realm. All its lush forests and tall cities. Its beautiful mountains and wide-open fields. The land was beautiful, tons of flora and fauna, and the creatures were even more enchanting. "I just don't understand why father is giving this title to Adryan! He acts rashly and without thinking, and his plans are always uncoordinated and messy." I said to myself. "Why can't he see how irresponsible and childish he is. He could never lead our people! All that would result from his reign is death and destruction, and I won't let that happen. I will do what is necessary to save our people. To save my people.
3rd Person POV:
So Marcellus planned and waited. He created an alliance with other beings in the universe to help him overtake the throne and become the rightful king. But in order to do so, he would need to take care of some loose ends. Mainly his family. Although it pained him to do so, he knew it had to be done. He knew his mother and father would be weakest on the Winter Solstice, as they were the Summer Fae. He would be able to easily overpower them then because unlike them, who's powers relied on light, his powers relied on the dark. As for Adryan he would have to be a little more creative. He knew that his older brother would be able to overpower him, as he had been trained to be a warrior since the day he could walk. But Marcellus knew that Adryan's relationship with their mother was strong. Once he saw her dead, Marcellus would be able to strike him down, while the grief overtook him. The only problem left was little Raelynn. He couldn't bear to think of hurting her. She was his light, his happiness, and the only person he truly called his family. He could never hurt his niece, but he knew he had to somehow get her away from the Fae Realm. He decided that he would send her to another realm. The human realm, to be precise. He would send Raelynn to her father. With his plan now complete, all he could do was wait, for the perfect time to strike.
~~~~~MONTHS LATER ON THE WINTER SOLSTICE~~~~~
3rd Person POV:
Singing a soft song, Ayala fed toddler Raelynn. Lynn giggled as her Avia hovered a spoon above her mouth as Lynn tried to grab it with her tiny hands. Raelynn had taken to calling her grandmother Avia, which meant grandmother in the Faerie tongue.
Suddenly, the table started to shake. Darkness surrounded Ayala and Raelynn. The queen jumped up and ran to the window to see what was going on.
A giant ship loomed over the palace. The Fae army fired at the ship, but the arrows bounced off. The ship fired back with advanced guns, killing massive numbers of Fae at once. Ayala gasped and picked little Lynn up, who had no idea what was going on. She had to get the little girl to safety. She decided to take her to the secret cellar at the bottom of the castle that nobody but the royal family knew about.
"Avia, where are we going?" The toddler asked, confused.
"Nowhere, Little Lynn. We just need to get somewhere else, somewhere safe." She answered.
Still confused, Raelynn looked up at her grandma. Her face looked tense, so she buried her face in her grandmother's shoulder. Closing the door behind her, she smiled slightly as she set Little Lynn down. She was so innocent and precious. She would keep her out of danger no matter what.
Suddenly, she heard a knock on the door. Startled, she hid Lynn behind her and put one finger up to her lips, silently telling her to be quiet.
"Mother! Mother! Please open the door. It is me, Marcellus."
After thinking for a split second, she motioned for Raelynn to hide in a nearby closet as she opened the door. Closing the door behind him, Marcellus walked in with two odd looking creatures, fully armed.
"Marcellus, who-what are-" Ayala started.
"Mother, these are my beloved friends," Marcellus interrupted, a twisted grin on his face. "And they're here to kill you."
"Marcellus, this is not who you are," the queen said. "Please, you can't do this-" She begged.
"Yes I can, mother!" Marcellus shouted. "Yes, I can. You cannot tell me what I can and cannot do. All I have ever wanted was having the power to rule. After you and father die, I shall kill Adryan with my own hands. When you all die, the Fae realm will have no choice but to accept me as their rightful king!"
"They will never accept you as king," she said. "They will look to Raelynn as their queen. Would you dare harm her?"
"Oh, I have plans for little Raelynn, but rest assured, no harm will come to her. That is, if you renounce your throne to me willingly," Marcellus answered.
"I will never surrender to you, monster. You will never find Raelynn." Ayala answered with a vengeance. "And if you think I'm going down without a fight, then I guess you didn't know me as well as you thought."
"KILL HER!!!" he yelled, as the creatures surged forward. She began throwing her powers at them, her light devouring them, one by one. The monsters kept coming, but she knew she would be able to hold them all off. That is until a burning pain shot through her. Ayala screamed as she crumpled to the floor. She cried out for Zyair, her bonded soulmate. In her moment of weakness, dozens of monsters rushed into the room, one striking her with its staff. Blood gushed from the wound in her stomach and she coughed. Marcellus, using his magic, vanished into thin air, but before he did, some would even say there was a sense of guilt in his eyes.
Upon hearing her grandmother's piercing scream, Raelynn opened the door of the closet and peeked at what was going on. She gasped as she saw the terrifying sight of her Avia dying on the floor with blood surrounding her.
The young girl rushed over to her grandma, eyes filled with tears. It was happening again. A haunting image of her mother closing her eyes for the last time flashed in her mind.
"Avia?" She whimpered. Ayala slowly lifted her hands up and waved them gently. Gentle, glowing light emitted from them. Raelynn looked down at her hands in confusion as she seemed to slowly turn to dust.
"Always stay safe, my dear," the queen whispered, she pressed a kiss to her granddaughter's forehead. "I love you, Little Lynn."
With that, Raelynn floated away with the wind, the warmth of her grandmother's embrace the last thing on her mind as the world shifted to black.
