To all the writers out there, here are some ideas for you to get involved:
(All of the following amounts are in U.S. Dollars. If you have an idea for your own currency, please share it, and it can be added to the story.)
For every 1000 words you write, donate $1.00 to your local food bank or relief fund.
Donate $0.25 every time you write a word ending with 'm.'
Donate $0.25 every time you write a word starting with 'm.'
Once a week, pick 100 words of your writing and use Scrabble distributions to donate by the letter...
$0.01.....A, E, I, L, N, O, R, S, T, U
$0.02.....D, G
$0.03.....B, C, M, P
$0.04.....F, H, V, W, Y
$0.05.....K
$0.08.....J, X
$0.10.....Q, Z
For 100 words of my recent English essay, I would be donating $7.67.
If you decide to use the Scrabble distributions, the External Link at the bottom will take you to a spreadsheet. Make a copy (File --> Make a copy), input the numbers, and it will calculate the amount for you.
Donate $1.00 every time you mention a color.
Are you prone to using a certain word? Every time you use it, donate $1.00. (For me, that would be the word "drastic.")
Some tips and tricks for the challenges above...
- use control + F or command + F to search for things within your document
- when searching for words that start with a certain letter, put a space before the letter in the search box (" m")
- when searching for words that end with a certain letter, put a space after the letter in the search box ("m ")
- if your writing software doesn't have a word counter, there are lots of great options online!
- for writers outside of the United States, Google has a currency converter (search "currency conversion")
