Rebecca Pov
I didn't know what set me off to leave, especially leaving for good, but I knew that once I left, I couldn't go back, (it was partly a pride thing here but it was also an 'I can't live here anymore' thing, ya know), so I decided to go to Manchester to live with my oldest brother Patrick and his wife Barbra.
It was evening time and I was walking around Manchester City Centre in what seemed like endless circles, as I was a little lost, (because I literally have no sense of direction), so I asked an old man with a cane for some directions, (I don't know his name as I never saw him again), as I didn't want to continue walking in endless circles as I get stressed easily, (plus I didn't want to over heat here).
"Hello, sorry excuse me Mister"
"Yes dear"
"Can you tell me where in Manchester I am please?"
"Well you're near Harry's shop"
"Ah!, I know that"
"Well then just continue down that way to get there my dear"
"Thank you very much good sir"
"You're welcome"So I walked towards where the man was pointing to, as it made sense and I kind of recognised the area when I actually gave it a proper look so it made sense to me to go that way, ya know, (it's ok if ya don't know what I mean here).
It was fully nighttime by the time I had found what I thought was Pat's house, (yeah I might've gotten lost again but that wasn't surprising as I have no sense of direction), I was shaking from anxiety the entire time while walking the entire length of the driveway, (it was a surprisingly long driveway for a house).
I was a bit anxious as I very much knew that Pat could have turned around and told me that he didn't need a moody preteen in his house when he was trying to build his own life, (and I wouldn't have blamed him for that to be honest here), normally seeing the moon would've helped me feel calmer but it did nothing for me here.
If Pat had said no about me staying with them, well then I would've probably gone to Wales to my Aunt Kitty in Swansea as she had my older sister Delia living with her at the time, (again I didn't really think it through before I did it but at least I had a backup plan here).
I took a deep breath to try and calm myself down, which helped a little bit but I was still quite anxious, (ok I know that I was a very worried child, well person as I still worry a lot), I kept balling up my hands and the releasing them, I guess that it helped with not worrying as much, (I couldn't tell you if it worked or not as an adult as I honestly have blocked most of this night out, I'm sorry if that doesn't really help you out).
So then I forced myself to knock on the front door as otherwise I wouldn't have done it, (I would not of had the balls to do it, rather than me not being physically able to do it), I was expecting my older brother Pat to answer the door, maybe even his wife Barbra as they lived together, so when it wasn't my brother or his wife that opened the front door, I freaked out a bit.
"Hello-"
"Shit, you're not Pat-"
"No... I'm not Pat, what's an 8 year old doing out at this time of the night anyway?"
"I'm not 8, I'm 11, I'm trying to find my older brother because Mum kicked me out?"He seemed a little shocked that I wasn't actually an 8 year old, but he didn't question me anymore on why I didn't look my age, (though he didn't look his age either), though I guess that most people wouldn't have answers to that.
"What did you do?"
"I asked a question about a name that I heard when Dad got murdered, she didn't like that all that much and so I went to find my brother Pat"
"Where's your brother?"
"I wouldn't be at your front door if I knew that, plus I thought that this was his house, though I'm not great at directions, I'm sorry-"
"No, I don't want an apology, it's not your fault, (sighs), come on in Darling, you're not going to find him at this time of night and I have a spare bed"
"Oh, thank you, but you don't have-"
"I'm not leaving a kid to wander the streets"
"Ok, do you want my name?"
"Sure"
"I'm Rebecca"
"I'm Leo, in case you need anything"
"Thanks"
