Chapter 10.
I pinched the bridge of my nose, pinching my eyes shut to prevent tears from leaking out them. How did this happen? A little gossip of her being pregnant and it turns out to be true. I will never get to see my child grow older, and the dream wasn’t even detailed enough to tell me when I died. Now that London is pregnant, there’s no way knowing when my time is up.
London couldn’t control her emotions long enough to see my reaction, and she ran as fast as she could up the stairs. It was obvious she was going to see some of her friends, since friends have great shoulders to cry on. She deserves their friendship, because when I’m gone she’ll need someone.
I’m not upset with her, we all knew this day was coming. The knowledge of me being unable to see our son grow older was nothing new. However, I didn’t think it would be as soon as I thought. I thought I would be able to marry London, and spend a long couple of years letting our mating bond grow. Never would I have thought it would be this quick to rise.
I wish the Moon Goddess would stop toying with our family, and harm some other one that deserved our pain. My mother has already lost her brother, and her entire family at that, why would she have to lose another child? She’ll be left with only Rylan, and by then who knows what she’ll do if I die. Most of all, who will be the Alpha until my son is old enough?
The date of being Alpha was growing closer and closer, and my birthday was in a little more than a week away. Time was running out, and the possibility of finding my sister was weakening. Something wasn’t right. With one missing clue I may not be able to find Penelope in time, and I have no idea who the last person is.
“You can’t give up now Clayton!” Sage snapped, kneeling in front of me and lifting my head up so I could look at her. “We’re so close, I can feel it.”
“I’m turning eighteen in nine days.” I told her, my voice cracking at the end. “London is pregnant and I don’t think I have enough hope to last me until then.”
“What do you have so far? Where are the clues?” She asked, standing up and rummaging through my office.
When London ran off, Sage gripped my arm tightly and led me here. She didn’t want pack members seeing me break, because when I became Alpha they would see someone who was weak. I certainly didn’t want that to happen, I’ve already disappointed enough people.
“In my office drawer.” She quickly went to my desk, unlocked it quickly and pulled out my piece of paper. After unfolding it a few times she scanned through it. “Here.”
Handing it to me, I began skimming over it fluently. In my own hand writing it had:
1. Good luck finding her where the darkest place is where the sun shines brightly.
2. Because an erect and racing adrenaline matched a union and democracy for all.
3. The daughter’s parents find the missing, forgiveness hopeful with an island of regret.
4. Missing seventeen yet found pre-eighteen, attempts at death with a confused young mind.
5. A lost mother’s friend returns to help, but teaches the mind little of love.
