The next morning Melissa was having breakfast with her parents. She took the milk from the fridge and added it to her coffee.
After she drank her coffee, she got a text on her phone. It was from Jordan, telling her, he was waiting outside.
"Jordan's here. I have to go. Love you."
"Love you too, sweetie. Have a good day." Her mom said, while her dad waved at her.
Melissa took her bag and phone and walked outside. She opened the car door and said hello to Jordan. On their way to Crenshaw, they talked about different things.
While they were waiting for Spencer to get out of his house, Jordan looked across the street and saw two guys looking at them.
Melissa saw Spencer walking towards the car and got into the back, offering him the passenger seat.
Spencer opened the door and got into the car. "What the hell are you doing?"
"I'm picking you up," Jordan replied.
Spencer closed the car door. "In your red car and your red hat? You're like a Bloods poster boy, man. Gonna get your head blown off."
Melissa looked worried at Jordan until Spencer started laughing.
"I'm just playing. C'mon dawg."
"You nearly got me, Spencer," Melissa said, as Jordan started driving.
Spencer looked across the street and waved at the two guys. "Hey, what up, Mike?"
Jordan drove back to his house. It wasn't awkward at all. Spencer, Melissa and he had a nice conversation about football, family and other stuff. They reached the house and Spencer looked gobsmacked.
"All this on a coach's salary?"
"My mom's an attorney," Jordan replied. "Let's get inside. Mom's waiting for us."
Spencer and Melissa followed Jordan and were greeted by Laura.
"Oh, there you boys are. And Mel is here too. Nice to see you," She said, looking at Melissa. "You must be Spencer."
"Oh, yes, Ma'am." Spencer nodded, holding his hand out.
Laura ignored his hand and pulled him into a hug. "I am so happy to finally meet you. You're all Billy's been talking about lately. Isn't that right, kids?" She asked, looking at Olivia and Jordan.
"Sure is. Yeah."
"Romancing the stone."
Jordan and Oliva said at the same time.
"I have a question, though, and I want you to be honest." Laura continued.
"Careful, she's a crier." Olivia interrupted.
"I am making my famous gazpacho tonight. And I just need to know a few things. Do you have any allergies, dairy, gluten? You're not paleo, are you?"
"No, Ma'am. When it comes to food, the only thing I am is hungry." Spencer replied.
"Ok, we're gonna hit it, mom," Jordan said and clapped Spencer on the shoulder.
"Ok, you guys do that. Whatever that is." Laura told them.
While Laura and Spencer were talking, Melissa walked over to Olivia. "Do you want to join us? I'll have to leave soon; my brother is coming home."
"I'm ok here. But that's great to hear. Tell him I said hi." Olivia declined.
Melissa looked sadly at her friend. She tried to include Olivia, but she didn't make it easy.
