"Here we are. The Beverly Eagles are seconds away from a devastating loss to Culver City. The last-place team in the division. An upset today would cripple the chances of Beverly making the playoffs."
Layla, Olivia, and Melissa were watching the football game together. Even though it looked like Beverly couldn't win anymore, the girls never gave up hope. They could still turn it around.
"And here's the kick. He cuts left. It's a block and he's loose! He's at the 50, the 40. He's got one man to beat. And all the way down to the Culver 20-yard line. Spencer James with an electrifying return."
The girls cheered and were happy for their team. On the field, Spencer took his helmet off and looked at the girls. Olivia shook her head and Spencer looked devastated. Layla turned to Olivia to find out what upset him.
"What's that about?" She asked.
"His friend Coop was supposed to be here," Olivia explained to her friends.
"Oh. Well, too bad she missed it. He looks good today." Layla said.
Melissa smiled at that, she and Layla still haven't given up hope for Olivia and Spencer to get together.
"That he does." Melissa agreed with Layla.
"Don't," Olivia said. She knew her friends wanted the best for her, but she wasn't sure about herself and Spencer. It was still weird between them.
"What?" Layla and Melissa asked at the same time.
"The last time you two tried to play matchmaker, I ended up in a hot tub with my almost brother," Olivia told them.
Melissa thought back to that party and how everything could have gone really wrong. But after they found out, that Spencer wasn't her brother she wanted them to get together even more. They had great chemistry and were really cute together.
"He's not your brother," Layla told Olivia, as Melissa nodded in agreement.
"We both know that you trying to set me up with Spencer is more about you than it is about me," Olivia told her friend.
"That's not true, Liv. I know, I've said it before, but we just want you to be happy. And you like Spencer, anyone can see that." Melissa defended Layla.
"Hey, princess." A voice startled the girls. They looked up and saw Layla's dad approaching.
"Hey, dad. You made it." Layla greeted her dad and stood up to give him a hug.
Melissa knew how happy Layla was to see her dad. He was working a lot and didn't have much time for his daughter. And now that he was finally back, Melissa hoped Layla could spend a lot of time with her father.
Layla's dad sat down next to his daughter and Melissa was confused when a woman put her arm on Layla's shoulder.
"Hi. How are you doing?" The woman asked.
The girls smiled at them and Layla decided to introduce them. She still hadn't wrapped her head about this new situation, but she knew she could count on her friends.
When her dad got back home, he wasn't alone. He brought Chynna, the new woman in his life.
"Hi. This is Olivia and Melissa." She told her and turned to her friends. "And this is Chynna."
"Adams looked open, but Baker couldn't get him the ball."
Melissa frowned as she looked down to the field. Asher and Jordan looked like they were fighting, thankfully Spencer got them to calm down.
