Lost and Found || Danny Walker

Prologue

June 1923

"Wow bandits" Rafe yells, Danny then gets up to his makeshift gun and starts making shooting noises.

"Crack shooting, Danny"

"Crack shooting, Rafe"

I hear the boys playing in the old biplane while I'm reading my book even though I was only 5 I learned early. Rafe was my Older brother, we looked nothing alike he had light brown almost blond in some spots, while I have medium dark brown hair. I have freckles spread across my cheeks as well as the bridge of my nose, Rafe did not, I have bright blue eyes, while Rafe has honey colored eyes. He was 2 years older than me though. Danny is my bestfriend we've been bestfriends since forever he was only a year older than me. 

"Land of the Free" I hear Rafe say.

"Home of the Brave" Danny replies 

I then go back to reading my book, but then was brought out of my thoughts by the sound of another biplane which happened to be my dad.

"Hey Ken" my dad said waving at me I waved back, after my dad went inside Rafe and Danny Came running out from where they had previously been playing. 

"Come on Kenzie come play with us" Danny is the only one who calls me Kenzie it's his special nickname for me.

"Yeah come on Mack" Rafe joined in as Danny holds a hand out for me to grab for him to help me up. I set my book down and take his hand as he pulls me up. Rafe starts heading to the plane and Danny and I follow, we then all ran to the plane my dad just came out of.

"Mackenzie get in the back" Rafe says, I just say "ok" Rafe and Danny both help me up by cupping their hands together. After I was in I tell them "Thank you" then after they made sure I was in they both ran to the front of the plane.

"I wanna be in the front" Danny says trying to climb in but Rafe grabs Danny's back pocket and pulled him back down. 

"Not a chance" Rafe says and starts to climb but Danny grabs Rafe's ankle and pulls him down before he could get to far.

"Why do you get to be in the front?" Danny asks with a confused look.

"Because I'm going to teach you guys how to fly and I'm older." Danny didn't argue and let go of Rafe. "Just get in the back with Mackenzie." Rafe nods his head towards me, Danny nods and starts to climb up I stood up so he could get in. I had to sit on his lap since the seat was only so big. 

"Sorry Kenzie" Danny says looking at the floor trying to hide his blush.

"It's fine this is going to be fun" I said which made him smile. Rafe started making engine noises while turning the wheel pretending to be flying. While Danny was pretending to shoot the bandits I joined, I stood up and pointing my make shift gun in pretending to see them and shoot at them. 

"I'm gonna give her full power" Rafe says hitting a random button. But then the engine came to life and the plane started shaking. 

"Rafe what did yo do?!" I yelled as we started to move forward I fell back in Danny's lap. He then wrapped his arms around my waist so I wouldn't fall out. 

"Don't worry I gotch ya" Danny says looking into my baby blues as I stare into his dark browns. "Rafe! What are you doing" Danny yells as we feel the wheels start to come off the ground.

"Just relax guys I got this " Rafe says as he gets better control of the wheel. "Ready guys

Three...

Two...

One..."

 Rafe counts down once he hits one we are up in the air once we were in the air a good amount, Danny tightened his grip a little bit as we both looked over the side. "Woo is this amazing or what?" Rafe yells.

"This is incredible" "This is amazing" Danny and I yelled back. We flew around for a little bit longer then Rafe landed the plane rather roughly. 

"Landing was a little bumpy don't ya think" Danny said a little laugh as he let's go of my waist I laughed at Danny's comment I stood up and got out, then Danny jumped down and so did Rafe. Then we all ran to the barn still in shock  that that just happened. Then... 

"You no account boy" Danny's dad grabs his shirt. "I done told you, you spend time playing with this stupid boy, can't read." His father spat.

"Hey don't call my brother stupid" I yell back.

"Shut up darling I wasn't talking to you" He spat back he looks back at Danny. "You ain't never gonna mount to nothing" he yells as he pulls Danny along with him. 

"He ain't stupid, and don't speak to her like that" Danny yells back then his dad stops and slaps Danny across the face. Danny fell then his dad grabs him by the shirt and yanks him up. That was it. I look at Rafe we nod at each other I help Rafe get the slab of wood from the propeller of the broken biplane. Then we run after Danny as he's being dragged by his dad across the field. We round the tractor and Rafe hits Danny's dad on the back and I kicked him so he lays flat. 

"You leave him alone" Rafe and I yelled in unison. Danny's dad then gets up and  grabs my arm and pulls me to the ground and charges for Rafe. 

"NO Daddy leave them alone" Danny yells as he pushes past his dad to help me up and he pulls me behind him protectively. 

"I will bust you open you dirty German" Rafe yells as he holds the slab of wood close but accessible to use if necessary. 

"What'd you call me? I fought the Germans in France" Danny's dad said with a sad expression staring at Rafe. "I fought them in the trenches. I pray to God no one ever has to see the things that I saw." He says looking between the three of us... He then starts to head back home with a look of terror on his face. 

"Are you ok?" Danny turns and asks me. 

"My knees and elbows are scrapped but I'm ok." I nod at him he nods back he then turns to Rafe.

"You're my bestfriend" he puts his hand on  Rafe's shoulder and gives it a small squeeze. Then turns and runs after his dad "Daddy wait!"
