Lost and Found || Danny Walker

July 19 1934

I wake up to the sun light hitting my face excepting from my window a cross the room. I shield my eyes until I can fully open them. I grab the watch tat was sitting on my nightstand to check the time. It was 6:30 the boys had to be at the train station at noon. So I got up and looked down the hall to see Rafe still sleeping I decided to take a shower I grabbed some clean clothes and headed to the bathroom I took my shower got out and got changed deciding to let my hair dry natural.

I look and see Rafe is still sleeping and I check my watch it's now 7. I decided to make Rafe a special breakfast before him and Danny go. I decided to make pancakes, hash browns, and bacon. I started with the bacon since it would probably take the longest to cook so I put some oil in the pan and threw some bacon on. I look at the kitchen window and I see Danny just sitting on the front porch. He's been doing that every morning since his dad passed a few years ago. I checked on the bacon, I turned the heat to a low simmer so it wouldn't burn while I went out for a few, I headed outside. I walked over to Danny's house he saw me coming, when I was about half way he got up and started walking to me.

"Kenzie... What are you doing here? We don't have to be at the train station until noon." He asks looking at me with a confused look. 

"Well I decided I would make Rafe breakfast before he leaves and I was wondering if you wanted to join us." I explain with a small smile plastered on my face.

"Really?" He asks with a smile, I nod he then pulls me into a small hug. "I don't deserve you" he says releasing me, but keeps his hands on my hips and staring softly into my eyes.

"Of coarse you do... I don't deserve you with all the amazing dates." I tell him, he gives a small smile and nods and let go of me. 

"I'll shower then I'll be over" he says starting to walk backwards to his house, almost tripping on the way.

"Sounds good" I say turning around and heading back to my house. But I take one last glance over my shoulders and look at Danny jogging back to his house. "I'm gonna miss this" I say to myself before I turn back around and get to my house. I walk back into the kitchen I check on the bacon it was still simmering I grab tongs and flipped the pieces. Then I got started on the pancakes I went and grabbed the mix and made a big batch of dough getting some on myself in the process. I grab label to pour the pancake mix in the pan so i don't make a big mess. After making a few I throw the hash browns in a separate pan. I then hear footsteps coming from the stairs.  

"Mackenzie? Is that you?" I hear Rafe ask groggily. I laugh and wipe my hands on a paper towel and start to head out of the kitchen and to the stairs.

"Yes it's me Rafe" I walk out giving him a big smile. 

"What are you doing?" Rafe asks with a yawn.

"Well I thought since you and Danny are leaving and might not be back I would make you guys breakfast." I explain biting my lip trying not to let my tears weld up. 

"What did I do to deserve a sister like you" Rafe says with a big smile and pulling me into a hug then there was a knock at the door. 

"That's probably Danny" I say wiping a tear from my check and heading to the door. I open the door to see Danny with a huge smile showing his gap between his two front teeth as well as his dimples which made him even more attractive. 

"Hey." I smile back at him taking in this moment as if hoping it would last forever, even though I knew it wouldn't.

"Smells amazing in there" Danny says looking into my eyes.

"Thanks" I say taking his hand and leading him inside. I lead him to the table while I can hear Rafe in the bathroom upstairs probably washing his hands. Then a few seconds we hear footsteps coming down the steps. Danny turns around in his seat to look at Rafe.
