The Yakshi and the Doctor

Chapter 6: The Beginning

Mohini was very disturbed and frustrated with the happenings of the day. She had come to the doctors house with the expectation that she can easily find out some chinks in his armour of projected goodness and finish the complications arising out of it. Instead, she could not find any and was struck here. Even after shadowing the doctor the whole day, she could only see the doctor helping all the people around him. Even when the rush of the patients was heavy, the doctor was patiently attending to each of them individually. He was even giving medicines to the poorest from his savings, if they were not able to afford it. As all his money was getting spent this way, she could understand why he had told her that he cant afford her salary.

Now she could not even leave his house without raising suspicion in his mind. She was sure that doctor would find her entering his house without keys suspicious. For now she would tell him that back door was open. But from tomorrow she would take extra care and would take extra key of the house to stop arousing any suspicions in his mind. Overall based on her study of the doctor today, he seemed to be a gentleman. She was sure she could not trap him in any way in her old age avatar. He is sure to help her any way he can as he keeps helping all people.

Only option now seems to be take the mohini avatar. After all he was a unmarried man. Countless men have perished falling to her charms. So if she really tries she was sure that obstacle in the form of the doctor before her could also be cleared within a few days. She decided to join the hospital as a nurse to be close to him and accomplish her task easily. She cant afford to prolong with stupid act for far too long. After all she is the avenging angel and not some foolish lady who is looking for her black knight in shining armour. That time and place was long gone. Looking back, now it seemed like it was in another lifetime. Actually it was in another lifetime as she is now a ghost. Thinking this, she chuckled to herself. She is growing weak with all this perceived goodness of this doctor. She cant afford to be weak. She is afterall the predator and not the prey. 

Next day morning she knocked at the door at appointed time. The doctor woke up and opened the door. Immediately she demanded the extra key of the house and explained how she managed to get in to the house at the night through backdoor. She also explained that as she didnt want the doctor to sleep without having food, she had taken that risk. The doctor seemed to be happy with her explanation and didnt have any suspicion.

After finishing her tasks and while leaving for the day, she explained how a young women named, mohini had come yesterday to the house asking for the doctor. She told that mohini wanted a job as a nurse at the hospital and she was professionally qualified. Lakshmiamma further stated that as she didnt know about these things, she asked mohini to come and meet the doctor at the hospital at 10.00 am today. The doctor explained that appointment to the government hospital as a nurse was not in his hands. Then decided that there was no point explaining these things to his housekeeper. Lakshmiamma left for the day. The doctor actually savoried his breakfast as it was extremely tastely. It reminded him of his moms cooking which he had sorely missed all these years. He also felt happy to have kept lakshmiamma as his housekeeper.

Around 9 am, he reached his office. He was lost in his research that he heard a knock at his door. When he looked up, it was the same girl whom he had treated the other night. He thought she had come for follow up on treatment. But she explained that she had completed her nursing degree and had actually come to his for a job. The other day due to change of weather, she had fallen sick and had to ask him for treatment. The doctor explained how appointment as nurse in the government hospital was beyond his powers. He asked her to pass the relevant exam to take the job. But she told that she is from a rich family and is not interested to work full time. She is volunteering as she had seen people from her area were falling sick n dying due to some strange disease. Since she wanted to find a cure she is volunteering to work with him without salary. Since there was actual short supply of qualified nurses, her request was appealing to the doctor. He gave her a recomendation letter and asked her to the meet the office administrator. Mohini was quite happy as she could get the job as volunteer nurse with the doctors recommendation. That was she could finish the job on hand and leave without raising any suspicions in people around. As she predicted she got permission to work in the hospital as volunteer. Her job was to assist the doctor in the research and seeing the patients. She was sure that now she was in perfect position to complete her task. With the letter on hand, she went back to the doctor, who gave her the job standing at the door and sending the patients one by one to his room. This was not the actual expectation of mohini. The doctor seemed to a tough nut to crack.
