The Yakshi and the Doctor

Chapter 19: The Finale

Over the next couple of months mohini made it a point to ensure that she did not come in front of the doctor. Neither was any news about her anywhere.  But she was always present in rukmini as an essence watching over them. She also made it a point to prod rukmini in the right direction. During one of the meeting with the doctor, rukmini told him that since he was not interested to marry her and since her parents were looking for a groom, she is getting herself transferred to her native place. This was a rude awakening for the doctor. He had come to realize the value of rukmini in his life. But how he can leave mohini just like that. It was not fair according to him. So he couldn't sleep in that  night. As he was walking around in his house in the middle of the night, suddenly lakshiamma made a appearance in front of him. He was startled by her sudden appearance. He was about to ask her how could she come here and where was she along. But she made a sign asking him to keep quiet.

She then told him that she knows all his wishes and desires. Lakshmiamma then told him to get married to rukmini and settle down in his life before she leaves the town. Before doctor opened his mouth and told how she can tell this knowing well about his love for mohini, lakshiamma transformed herself in to mohini right in front of his eyes. Doctor was speechless and spell bound. Mohini winked at him and told this is the reason she knows everything that is best for him. Mohini explained how she is ghost and how there is no future between a human and ghost in a relationship. But she didn't tell anything about her residing in rukmini as it would not have been fair to rukmini who was a good person

 Finally doctor agreed to marry rukmini.

Next day morning as rukmini was packing her bags to leave her hostel, doctor came there and proposed to her in front of everyone. Even though her joy knew no bounds she first made it clear that she would not be a replacement for mohini in doctors life. Doctor nodded his head and then people of the town made their wedding a grand affair. 

The day before the wedding mohini and rukmini had a heart to heart conversation regarding life, love and friendship. Mohini made it clear to rukmini that she wont interfere in their lives during this birth and they can live happily ever after. But after in the next life the she will not be so generous to leave doctor to rukmini. Both smiled at that comment and bid adieu. 

After the festivities of the wedding which seemed more like a temple festival with whole town gathering and wishing the couple, doctor and rukmini retired to their home. It was at this moment that the doctor wished if his parents were alive to see him happy and well settled in his life. He also couldn't help but wonder where mohini was at this instant. Then he dismissed that thought and went in to his bedroom. He could not believe his eyes, in place of rukmini he was seeing mohini sitting in his bed. He couldn't decide if he was dreaming or seeing in real. So he decide to call rukmini, the moment he said her name, he started seeing rukmini in place of mohini. He then called mohini and mohini appeared in place of rukmini. He was totally flabbergasted by the turn of the events and felt his head becoming heavier. He still couldn't decide if he was awake or dreaming. If this was a dream he didnt want to wake from it.
