The Yakshi and the Doctor

Chapter 16: The Plans

Rukmini was totally taken aback with the revelation that the mohini she knew and the mohini, the yakshi were actually one and the same. She was actually hoping that the rumours were not true. Infact, even though in her heart she knew that doctor was in love with the yakshi and both were same, standing in front of the yakshi was bound to give her chills as she was only a normal human woman. Mohini with a sneer asked rukmini;

" So you are planning to defeat me forever by supporting Mahadevan, Do you really think that you can live to tell the tale after going through with your plans?."

Rukmini replied honestly that she will do all she can to protect the doctor and people from the yakshi, even if she has to go against the yakshi.

Mohini actually didn't expect such honesty from rukmini in face of threat of retribution from the yakshi. She face softened and her sneer changed in to genuine curiosity and a smile. She told rukmini that she does not have any plans to harm the doctor or innocent people of wyanad. However, evil guys would continue to die and wouldn't get the same level of mercy from mohini. Rukmini was greatly relieved to hear this from the yakshi. However, she probed further with the knowledge and confidence that the yakshi does not kill or trouble good people. She couldn't let such an opportunity to pass to ensure that the doctor and good people of wyanad dont incur the wrath of the yakshi. She asked mohini, how to trust the words of a yakshi and further asked mohini to promise that good people and doctor wont be harmed.

Mohini couldn't help but chuckle to herself at the audacity of rukmini who was trying to push her luck too far. Mohini was not answerable to anyone. However, as she liked to play fair and as she was genuinely impressed by the honesty and sincerity of rukmini, she decided to humour her and made the promise she asked. Rukmini who was relieved at this, told mohini that she knew that even though mohini was a yakshi, she was also in love with doctor and she would never harm him or good people. Infact she also loved the doctor but as it was a one sided love, none knew about it.

Mohini informed rukmini that she also knew about it. Mohini added that she also knew that even though rukmini had promised to help Mahadevan for defeating her, rukmini would never bring herself to harm the yakshi. Rukmini confessed that it was true and she could never bring herself to harm a good person or for that matter a good yakshi. Both of them laughed at this. However, rukmini told mohini that she was concerned that Mahadevan with his superior skills would come to know about the intentions of rukmini. Mohini reassured rukmini that she has created a powerful magical enchantment around rukmini with her power and how Mahadevan would not be able to figure out anything. This reassured rukmini and yakshi parted with the remark that how they could have been best friends if they had met in real life.

On the other side, Mahadevan was watching the interactions between mohini and rukmini with his mental powers. He couldn't believe it that a power yakshi like mohini believed that he couldn't see through her magical enchantment around rukmini. He had all along thought that mohini was super intelligent and powerful. But now seeing her plans, he knew that he could make use of his advanced knowledge to capture her and destroy her. How lucky he was, that mohini thought so poorly about his skills. Never underestimate the power of your opponent, was his basic mantra in life. However, how foolishly mohini was underestimating his powers. It was good for his he thought. He would make rukmini to do all the things he wanted by mentally controlling her through hypnotism as enchantments put by mohini on rukmini were not very strong and he could break them easily.

Similarly, on her palm tree it was mohini turn to smile to herself. She sighed and thought that the tantric mahadevan, had ego that was a mile long. She couldn't believe, he actually fell in to her trap of projecting her enchantments as weak. She thought that Mahadevan was more intelligent than that. It was a game of cat and mouse between her and the tantric. She had to project herself as weak so that she could hit hard when the enemy would be totally under prepared for her attack.

Mohini also thought to herself that rukmini would be a perfect bride for the doctor and how both of them were suited for one another. After all there was not future to a love story between a human and a yakshi, she thought to herself. Only problem in this plan was that the doctor was hopelessly in love with her. Infact, that was only half truth. She herself was also totally smitten with the doctor and in love with him. But she didn't want to admit it even to herself.

What the future has in store for all of them, only time would tell. For now all of them where content thinking and believing that each of them had outsmarted the other. However, things had already started to take a sinister turn. The lives of all the people involved would no longer be the same. However, for now, none knew about it. Ignorance was bliss.
