"A coma?" I was in disbelief.

Doctor Monroe nodded solemnly.

"Is she going to be okay? Please tell me she's going to be okay." I begged.

Doctor Monroe and Samantha glanced at each other.

"It's undefined, yet." Doctor Monroe finally said.

That was it for me. I threw my blanket off and stood up. My knees were so wobbly that I could barely hold myself up, but Samantha was there, catching me. I limped forward.

"I... need... to... see... her." I said breathlessly.

"Not so fast, Mr Pierce." Doctor Monroe held me back. "You aren't going anywhere."

I pushed against him. "No... No!"

"Please sit down, Mr Pierce."

I had enough of it.

"Get. Out. Of. My. Way." I practically growled. "My girlfriend is in a coma. I need to see her right now."

There was a rapid beeping from one of my monitors, and my heart rate was rising quickly. I was panting.

Doctor Monroe sighed and shouted into the hallway, "I need a wheelchair in Room 23!"

A different nurse wheeled a wheelchair into my room, and Samantha helped me into it. She wheeled me into the hallway and stepped behind her desk for a minute. She flipped through some papers, found Bailee's room, and wheeled me into the ICU. Bailee's room was Room 6.

"Only for a minute, 'kay?" Samantha asked before taking me into the room.

I nodded, feeling a lump in my throat.

She took me into the room and I saw Bailee lying on the hospital bed, with about a million different tubes and wires hooked up to her. My beautiful, beautiful Bailee. I wanted to break down right then and there, but I needed to be strong for her.

Samantha wheeled me next to Bailee's bed, then stepped out of the room.

I took Bailee's hand. It was ice cold.

I swallowed hard, then said, "Hey, Bailee-Bear." Bailee-Bear was my special name for her.

Bailee didn't answer. I don't know what I expected, as she was in a coma, but something inside of me shattered.

I felt a single tear roll down my cheek, but I quickly brushed it away.

"Hey, beautiful. It's Wyatt. I... I love you so much. You can't leave me now." I said, and my voice broke.

Bailee's long blonde hair was spread out on the pillow, and her eyes were closed. Her makeup was smudged and ruined, and she looked so calm, like she was sleeping.

"If you're in there, I want you to know how much I love you. Keep fighting."

I started to cry.

It was my fault.

It was my fault that she was in a coma. If I had been more careful with the box, if I hadn't dropped it...

All.

My.

Fault.

It should be me in that coma, not Bailee.

I was in a hospital gown, but I still had my khakis on. I felt the pocket. The box was still there.

The box that wrecked everything.

I pulled it out, my fingers feeling the soft, velvet cover. I opened it.

Inside was a small, diamond ring. The diamond glinted off the light. It was really beautiful.

It would look more beautiful if Bailee was wearing it.

I pushed the thoughts out of my head and put the box back in my pocket. My cheeks were wet from tears.

Samantha walked back into the room and said, "Time to go."

She wheeled me back up to my room, and when I was settled, I cried some more.

The love of my life, my soulmate, was in a coma, and there was nothing I could do about it. I couldn't catch her.
