Catch Me If I Fall

Chapter 5

Doctor Monroe finally agreed to let me visit Bailee once a day, as I recovered. 

Her condition didn't improve. 

Her parents would leave the room as soon as I entered. Only Saige remained.

Saige.

You have a girlfriend.

Saige.

Her name is Bailee.

Saige.

Hello? You were going to propose.

I felt guilty, knowing that the only reason I would go see Bailee was to admire Saige.

The ring in my pocket would make me feel it every once in a while, and would remind me.

.   .   .

I had graduated from the wheelchair, so Samantha supervised me as I walked to Bailee's room, and there was Saige, sitting on the edge of her bed and holding her hand.

"H-Hey." I said, nervous.

Saige looked up and wiped her tears away. "Oh, hey Wyatt."

I frowned. "Are you okay?"

She shook her head and her face collapsed.

I got to her side before she crumpled.

I held her as she cried into my hospital gown.

"Its just- she's been in a coma for so long, with no signs of improvement. I don't know if she's ever going to wake up." Saige said between sobs.

"I know." I whispered.

We stood like that for a long time, until she stepped back and sniffled. "I'm okay now, I think."

"Are you sure?" I asked.

She nodded. She sat down on the edge of Bailee's bed and plastered a fake smile on her face.

Without thinking, I did it.

I kissed her.

Saige was surprised, and that made two of us.

As we kissed, I sensed a faint movement out of the corner of my eye. I heard a familiar clearing of the throat.

We parted and who do I see but Bailee sitting up and glaring at me.

"Wyatt! I can't believe you! I fall into a coma and then you go after my little sister?" She screamed.

"I-I..." I stammered.

She held up a knife, and it glinted off of the hospital light.

She smiled evilly. 

"B-Bailee-" I started.

That's when she plunged the knife in my heart.

I woke up in a sweat.
