Inspired by the song 'If I Could Fly' from the album 'Made In The A.M.'
Love You Goodbye Part Two :)
P.S. I know I've already done a chapter with this song, but it just really suits the situation in this chapter. Also, I changed the lyrics a little bit to suit the storyline more.
It's been almost a year since you broke up with Harry, almost a year since the release of the video. And if you're being honest, you can't stop thinking about it. Even though you tried to tuck the memories away, they found ways to come creeping back. You've stayed in brief contact with Harry, occasionally commenting on each other's posts or checking in on each other, but nothing more than that. The fans get too hyped otherwise.
You're sitting on the floor by the window, painting your fingernails a bright turquoise, when your phone rings. Careful not to ruin the nail polish, you answer the phone, surprised to hear Niall on the other end of the line.
"Hey!" He says, you can almost hear the smile in his voice.
"What's up-?" You try to interject, but Niall just speaks over the top of you.
"Listen, we're playing an arena show tonight, you need to come. Please. Just meet Paul in the back parking lot, he'll let you in."
"But, why?" You ask, brows furrowed, blowing absentmindedly on your nails.
"Just trust me, okay. You'll be allowed to stay backstage if you want, but please, just come." With that, he hangs up the phone and you're left to listen to obnoxious beeping.
"What?" You practically shout. Niall seemed pretty desperate that you should come, so with a sigh, you start to get ready.
---
Fans line the path around the arena, bustling and chattering loudly, some have even started a very loud, rowdy singalong of What Makes You Beautiful. You smile to yourself as you pass them in your car. You're wearing dark sunglasses and a hat to try and conceal your identity lest the fans recognise you. Once you're let into the back parking lot, having your I.D checked by the intimidating security guards at the gate, you get out of the car. Paul, the boys' bodyguard, spots you and smiles, greeting you with a hug. You always liked Paul, he was so sweet despite his seemingly tough exterior.
"Hi, darlin', come in." He leads you down long hallways, past stage crew members and dressing rooms. With a short, patterned knock, he leads you into a small break room. Niall, Louis, and Liam are sitting on a small couch, they all look up at you as you enter.
"Hey guys," you mutter awkwardly. You haven't seen these boys for almost a year, and interacting on the internet is very different from interacting face-to-face.
"Welcome back, it's been a while since you've been backstage at one of our shows." Liam offers with a smile, trying to lighten the mood. I shoot him a grateful nod.
"So, what's all this about then?"
"Well, it's sort of a secret. Basically, you have to hang out in here for most or all of the show, but watch it on the TV over there." Niall points to the corner of the room. "But whatever you do, don't leave this room. Harry cannot see you, and-"
"Wait," you interject with wide eyes. "Harry doesn't know I'm here?"
"No. It's a surprise." Louis beams at me, but I huff an exasperated sigh.
"Are you kidding me? In case you hadn't noticed, we aren't together anymore, we aren't in love anymore." The words taste like acid on your tongue. Lies. Lies. Lies. It crept up on silent feet, but two months after the video you began to miss Harry. The way he smiled at little things like pretty flowers or cute puppies, the way he would laugh at your jokes no matter how bad they were. You missed laying with him, bodies intertwined beneath the sheets. But most of all, you missed the way he made you feel. Maybe your story wasn't supposed to end when it did...
You snap back to the present, realising you've been staring at the wall. Niall, Louis, and Liam stare right back.
"Look, just stay in here. I promise you won't regret coming." Niall says, there is a light in his eyes and you can't tell whether it's mischief or something else.
"We have to go now. Stay, please." With that, the boys leave you alone in the small room. You look around, but then the television flicks on. You watch as the boys step out on stage, and you can hear the roaring of the crowd from the small room, the audio is hardly necessary. You hear everything.
Smiling to yourself, you watch as the boys sing and mess around on the stage, earning screams from the crowd. You forgot how much you missed this, watching them perform. Then, about an hour into the concert, Harry walks up the centre aisle to the small platform. It slowly rises as he talks to the crowd.
"Now, this is a new song, everyone. One I wrote a few weeks ago on the tour bus when we were over in Italy. This song is very special to me, the person I wrote it about is special to me," the crowd screams in response to that, you smile, momentarily confused. Soft piano starts to play and then Harry begins to sing. His words are smooth, and you can't tell whether it's just the shitty television display or if there are tears shining in his eyes. The verse, as all the words Harry spoke, was beautiful. As he sings, you can't help but wonder if the song is for you. Then it clicks, maybe it is, why else would Niall have wanted you to come? Then the chorus begins...
"For her eyes only, I'll show her my heart. For when she's lonely, and forgets what we are. I'm only half of me, now that we're apart. But I hope she knows she was the only one for me..."
The platform lowers as Harry continues the song, with Niall, Louis, and Liam now forming harmonies to sing alongside him. And it's like something reaches inside your chest and gives a mighty tug. You're up on your feet and out of the room before you can comprehend what you're doing. But you follow that tug, you follow it until you're standing side-stage and you can see Harry. There are tears in your eyes and you're choking on deep, heaving sobs. Niall spots you and it's like he knows what you're thinking. He shoots you a smile and nods towards Harry.
"Go," he mouths.
So you go. The minute you step out on stage, the crowd screams a little louder. Harry jolts, confused at what the sudden uproar is about, but the thousands of people in the crowd are pointing towards you. Harry turns, and when your gazes lock from across the stage, everything else is irrelevant. It's as though time stops and you and Harry are the only ones still going. Everything slows down as he drops his mic and runs to you, arms wide. You meet him halfway and throw your hands around his neck, sobbing. It's like you've been waiting all this time, for this moment.
"I still love you!" You shout through your sobs, over the noise of the crowd. Harry smiles, tears running down his cheeks, too.
"I love you. I love you. I love you." Harry whispers repeatedly as he presses a kiss to your forehead. The crowd goes absolutely crazy. Your ears hurt from the noise, but you don't care. Not as you reach up and fist your hands in his hair, and kiss him. You kiss him with every ounce of love that has built up over the past year, and he kisses you back with just as much. You never forgot the way his mouth fit perfectly on yours, never forgot the way he tasted.
You never forgot the way he loves you.
That night, after the show ends and the arena empties, you and Harry walk hand in hand out to the parking lot. You kiss under the stars, then he drives your car back to his apartment. Then, when the two of you are sitting cross-legged on his living room floor and eating cold pizza and catching up, he says to you;
"Let's start again."
But you just smile at him and say;
"There's no point starting again when you never really stopped."

Author's Note
YAY FOR HAPPY CHAPTERS!! I really enjoyed writing this chapter, it made me smileeeee. Also, thanks to @abclanastyles who suggested I make a part two because Love You Goodbye was so sad (sorry for upsetting you, btw.) Anyway, I hope y'all had a great Easter. Also, if you're not up to speed on the Twitter stuff, hints keep being dropped about 1D Day 2020. I don't know if I should believe it, but it's certainly a possibility.
Anyway, have a great day!
Treat people with kindness.
