Chapter 1: Clueless
Reixel's P.O.V.
The throbbing in my head intensified with each heartbeat. A dull ache pulsed behind my eyes, making me want to curl up into a ball and disappear. Slowly, cautiously, I pried my eyelids open. The light, though dim, felt like a scorching sun against my sensitive retinas. I squeezed my eyes shut again, allowing them a moment to adjust before attempting another peek.
"Wala bang susi r'yan?" a frantic voice pierced through the fog in my brain.
"Wala eh," another voice, laced with frustration, replied.
"Paano tayo makakaalis dito?" This one sounded like Honey, her usual bubbly tone replaced with a tremor of fear.
"Guys, natatakot na ako," a fourth voice whimpered.
"Ano ba kasi ang nangyayari?" yet another voice demanded, bordering on hysteria.
"Hindi ko rin alam, basta pagising ko nandito na ako."
"Do you remember anything? Kung paano kayo napunta rito?"
"Wala akong maalala."
With a groan, I forced my eyes open again, this time managing to keep them that way. The blurry shapes swam into focus, revealing a bizarre tableau.
"Thank God, Reixel you're awake!" Celestria exclaimed, relief flooding her face.
I blinked, trying to make sense of my surroundings. We were in a room, that was clear. A windowless, featureless room with thick, solid walls. The only source of light seemed to be a series of recessed lamps in the ceiling, casting a harsh, unflattering glow.
"Nasaan ako? Nasaan tayo?" I croaked, my voice scratched and unfamiliar. The question hung in the air, heavy with unspoken fear.
"Hindi rin namin alam," Honey whispered, her eyes wide and glistening with unshed tears.
She was tugging at something, her movements jerky and desperate. I followed her gaze and realized she was trying to free herself from thick metal restraints that bound her wrists and torso to the chair she was sitting on. A wave of nausea washed over me as I realized we were all similarly confined.
What the heck! Where are we!?
It wasn't just the three of us - Celestria, Honey and myself - in this strange, claustrophobic space. There were others. I recognized French, from 12-B, and two unfamiliar faces from 12-A. A shiver snaked down my spine.
My eyes darted down to my own hands. I felt the cold, unyielding metal of the restraints digging into my skin. Panic threatened to overwhelm me.
"Do you have any idea about kung bakit tayo nandito?" French asked, her voice tight with anxiety. Her eyes darted around the room, searching for an escape, a clue, anything. A small nametag, pinned to her chest, bore her name in bold letters, and beneath it, a number: 08. She didn't have any classmates here.
A flicker of recognition sparked in my mind. I glanced down at my own chest. There was a nametag pinned to my uniform as well.
"Celestria." I croaked, my voice still raspy.
"Bakit?" she responded, her attention still focused on the metal bands that held her captive. She continued her futile attempts to wrench them apart.
"Ano'ng nakasulat sa name tag ko?"
She was on the opposite side of a large, circular table that dominated the center of the room, directly facing me. Honey was seated one person away from her.
"Four-ano ba 'yan! Huwag malikot!" she complained.
I tried to stay still, but a sense of growing unease made it difficult. Taking a deep breath, I reluctantly composed myself.
