Chapter 22: Fall
Ally's P.O.V.
"Okay, kunting tiis na lang, we're almost there," I said to Zcharlett, trying to inject some confidence into my voice as we trudged onward. Each step was a victory, a small defiance against the cruel game we were trapped in.
At least we were getting closer to leaving this cursed place. I had no idea what time it was. My stomach was screaming in protest. I longed for a moment of peace, a chance to eat and rest, but that felt like a distant dream.
"Room 26, that's it," Zcharlett announced, her voice hushed with a mixture of relief and apprehension.
We stopped before door 26, its cold steel surface reflecting the harsh, flickering light of the corridor. Taking a deep breath, I reached for the doorknob, the metal biting against my clammy skin. Slowly, agonizingly slowly, I opened the door.
The sight that greeted us made my breath hitch in my throat. I swallowed hard, my gaze sweeping over the room.
It was a sea of needles. Injections, syringes, vials, all piled high, reaching approximately four inches from the floor. A chilling mosaic of glass and steel. The room was brightly lit, the stark light amplifying the horror. It was also vast, impossibly vast, a macabre playground designed to torment.
The only way to reach the other doors was across a precarious path of stacked mono block chairs. This was going to be treacherous. From our current position, we needed to pass ten such chairs to reach door 25.
"So, let's enter?" Zcharlett asked, a nervous smile stretched across her face. But I saw the fear flickering in her eyes, betraying her bravado.
Who wouldn't be terrified in this situation? One wrong step, one stumble, and we'd be impaled on those needles. Many of the syringes were filled with some unknown concoction. To get through, we'd have to be incredibly careful.
"I'm the one who will enter first. Just follow me," I said, turning to face her, waiting for her hesitant nod.
"Okay, sure," she answered, her voice a little shaky.
I turned back to face the room of injections. Taking a tentative step, I placed my foot on the first mono block. I tread lightly, my legs trembling.
I stood still for a moment, trying to regain my balance. The wound on my foot throbbed with each pulse of my heart, the blood seeping into my sock. I braced myself, and took another step. Next mono block.
"Be careful," she whispered, her voice barely audible above the hum of the fluorescent lights.
I reached the third mono block, and Zcharlett began to climb onto the first. We were separated by a single chair. I took a deep breath and continued forward.
Each step was a gamble. The mono blocks swayed slightly as I shifted my weight, the plastic groaning under my tread. I glanced back at Zcharlett when the chair behind her suddenly screeched.
"Are you alright?" I asked, my voice laced with concern.
I stopped on the seventh mono block. The chair behind her had toppled over as she clumsily crawled onto the next. She almost fell, but thankfully, she managed to scramble to safety.
