Alexander is a part time pizza deliverer in New York. One fateful day, about 30 minutes before his shift is supposed to end, he is called for one more delivery.
Since this delivery consisted of three pizzas, Alex just assumed it was for a party. As he drove to the house the pizza was meant to be delivered to, he grew more confused. He could have sworn all this was for a party, but as he pulled into the driveway of the house, there was only on car there.
Maybe it's a party with the neighbors? They could have just walked. Alex thought, concluding to that as he walked carefully up the driveway and knocked on the door.
To his surprise, a girl around his age opened the door. She wore a light blue sweater, that looked a little to big, sweatpants, and her long brown hair was tied in a messy bun. She looked tired, or like she had cried before opening the door. Alexander smiled, and he could tell she tried her best to smile back, but he thought it rude to just ask, so he didn't at first.
"Hey, um, here's your stuff." He said, still holding the pizzas. She looked zoned out, deep in thought. Like something went off inside her, a tear fell down her face. Followed by more. She covered her face with her hands, trying to get herself to stop. At first, Alex didn't know what to do, so he set the boxes down on the patio a looked around. He reached in his pocket and pulled out a tissue bag he carried with him and handed it to her.
"Here, Uh, did I- did I say something?" He asked awkwardly. The girl took the small bag and shook her head.
"No. It wasn't you. It's jus—" she was cut off by a sob raking her body. Panicking, Alex opened him arms frantically for a hug, which the girl surprisingly accepted. She cried into his shoulder, and Alex just stood there, rubbing her back awkwardly.
Soon, she pulled away, looking up at him and smiling slightly. Alex took this moment to really look at her. Her deep brown eyes, freckles that dotted her face like sprinkles on a cupcake, the way her mouth curved slightly up, letting Alex know he had been even a little successful in comforting her. She had a slight blush when she looked in his eyes too long, and she looked away. Alex breathed a laugh.
"Well, my names Alexander. Your local pizza delivery man, what's yours?" His flirty side came out, a goofy smile spreading across his face in an attempt to cheer her up. Her smile grew, all evidence that she had been sad at all seeming to fade away.
"Elizabeth. But, please, call me Eliza." She wasn't looking him in the eye anymore, but her light blush still didn't fade from her face.
"Well, Eliza, here are your pizzas. I hope you start feeling better." Alex picked up the pizza boxes on the ground and handing them over to Eliza. She took them, setting them on a small table next to the door and turning back to Alex.
"My shift ends soon. After it ends I could,,, come over? If you need to talk, I'll listen." He suggested. She smiled and nodded.
"Yeah. I'd like that." He started walking back to his car after she gave him the address scribbled on a piece of paper. They waved to each other, a smile plastered on both of there faces.
