The rain was thick and falling hard. But all I cared about was getting away. Hot tear ran down my face as my bare feet slapped the wet grass. I could hear the beat of my heart pounding in my ears. Fear ripping through my body like acid. Wet branches slapped and cut at my skin. This has to be nightmare; Please God let this be a nightmare. Thunder boomed as the haunting images clouded my vision.

"Mom I set the table no thanks to Lilly!" my little sister looked at me giggling sticking out her tongue. "Brat" I said wile rolling my eyes and walking to the kitchen "you spoil that girl to much mom. I swear you'd let her get away with murder. "

She looked up from the pot of food she was stirring and laughed "Oh Please Rose she's only seven"

Throwing my hands up in frustration "I was helping you do all kinds of things at seven!"

My sister skipped into the kitchen hugging my mother by the waist. "Your just jealous cause mom and dad love me more!"

I rolling my eyes at her "Oh yea? did they tell you, you were an accident!" I jumped as my mother slammed the spoon she was turning with on kitchen counter

"ROSE DONT EVER TALK TO YOUR SISTER LIKE THAT! NOW YOU APOLOGIZE BEFORE I SEND YOU TO BED WITHOUT ANY DINNER TONIGHT!"

I felt my lip quiver with emotion. My mother almost never yelled at me. But when she did she meant business. "Sorry brat" I hissed storming into the dining room. I sat down at the table and heard my sister ask

"Mommy what does she mean by I was an accident ?" I heard my mother sigh "Nothing sweetie, Rose is just upset because daddy is late for dinner again. "

My father worked long hours most nights because he was lead detective at our local police station. I hated it more than anything. Since I could remember he always put work before anything. Coming home late and tired, I barely got to see him at all sometimes. I sighed as I remembered the days off he used to spent with me when I was Lilly's age. Taking me to the park, teaching me to fish and going camping. That was before his "job" became more demanding of his time. I guess you could say I was a daddy's girl. And maybe I was a little flustered he wasn't here yet. He promised the night before he'd make it in time for dinner. But yet again he was more than a little late. Dinner was supposed to be at 6, the clock was already hitting 8:45. I grumbled as I heard my sister asking my mother why I was so mean to her. It was trying to be, just when my parent's found out about their unexpected surprise I felt as if I had to fight for their attention. Even though Lilly wasn't planned they still rejoiced at the news. And ever since Lilly could walk she made sure to make my life hell. Sometime I wish I was an only child. She would do such spiteful things like pull my hair and throw food or her drink at me. One time when I was 12 she threw a toy so hard at my face I had a black eye for weeks! But it wasn't all bad, for a long while I was the only one Lilly would sleep with. Which made no sense to me since she spent her days tormenting me. My mother walked into the dining room with my little sister trailing not far behind. She stared out the window looking at the storm outside "We should eat. Looks like your father won't be home tile late. " she stated with a worried look.

I sat on the living room couch wrapped in a blanket wile my mother paced back and forth. It was almost midnight and my father still hadn't returned home. It was very unusually of him. I had to admit I also had dreadful feeling. I just knew how to hide it better than my mother. I could see the stress radiating off of her, she was almost at the brink of tears when she finally spoke.
