When Tony woke up the first thing he did was go to Stephens room where he was supposed to be resting, but when he got there he was nowhere to be found. He felt his heart sink when he opened the door and saw that the room was empty and the bed where the doctor would be sleeping was in tact.
"Friday, do you know where Stephen is?"
asked Tony, concern audible in his voice.
"Dr. Stephen Strange appears to be just above us, sir."
Now, Tony was confused to say the least.
What is he doing on the rooftop
Nonetheless, he decided to go up there just in case he needed him. He reached the roof and saw Stephen sitting on the railing looking up.
"What are you doing here Stark?"
"I was about to ask you the same thing, Strange."
Silence filled the air. Tony decided to sit next to him and wait until he recieves an answer.
"If you are waiting for an answer, you're not gonna get it, at least not today..."
"It's okay. You're good company, doc. It's nice being with you even if we don't talk."
Stephen turned to look at him, the sun's rays falling gracefully on his face making his eyes' colour pop out. He looked at him for a while and then he laughed. Tony looked at him.
"Why are you laughing?" he asked, laughing himself now.
"It's just that.. I didn't expect anyone to think of me as good company.." said the sorcerer, lowering his head from where he was looking at.
"Why so? You indeed are great company Strange... You're a great person. I don't know why you didn't expect this." said the billionaire while turning to look at his friend who was looking rather handsome under the now settling sun.
Before the sorcerer has any chance to say anything, Tony took the opportunity and asked him again.
"But you didn't tell me, why are you up here?"
"Nice view... and it's quiet. I.. I wanted some clean air to think."
"You sound troubled. Talk to me."
Tony made an effort to come closer to the doctor but he didn't want to intrude on any personal issues so he continued on.
"..you don't have to tell me if you don't want to though."
Strange looked at him once again and Tony almost swore that his heart skipped a beat. He gently touched Stephen's hand and held it. The taller man opened his mouth to talk, he quickly closed it again but a sob managed to escape his lips.
"Hey, it's okay, I am here. It's okay."
Tony doesn't know what is okay but right now, he needs to be there for his friend.
"I'm sorry it's just... I feel so alone.. I'm always lost in my thoughts. I can't help myself but think, think and think until I fall asleep. Everyday I wake up wishing I wasn't alone. Nothing changes. Until yesterday. You helped me and I never realised that someone actually cares for me. And... today I woke up alone again.. I.. I thought that it wasn't real, that it was my imagination. I'm sor-"
Stephen didn't have time to finish his sentence, two arms were wrapped around him in no time. He reluctantly hugged back and relaxed in the warm embrace.
"Stephen, know that I am always here for you okay? That's what friends are for. To support you through tough times and be happy when you succeed. You can tell me anything okay? And you are not alone. You never were."
Stephen pulled away, although he didn't want to, and smilled. Immediately feeling the lack of warmth, he unintentionally shivered. Tony caught on and removed his jacket.
"No, Tony, you'll get sick. Put it back on."
"I'm not the one who is shivering."
The doctor laughed in defeat as he put on his friend's jacket and sat on the railing again. The billionaire sat next to him and rested his head on the sorcerer's shoulder. The sun had already settled and it had started to get chilly.
No wonder Stephen was shivering..
"Now, who wants their jacket back?"
"Not me!"
They both laughed as they continued watching the busy town below them.
