Chapter 49 - Smile at Defeat

I flinched and dropped the necklace into the water, "W-who?". I heard a chuckle, "There's no need to be frightened. I'm Mistress Marina's mirror, or should I say, your mother's mirror?". I looked into the water and it began to swirl. 

My pendant floated upwards and into my hands, "T-thank you... ... ...Wait...mother's gone... so why?". I heard the mirror sigh, "Her magic still remains, Miss Y/N. Pardon my intrusion but I heard your concerns. You must remember, even though Mistress Marina was never your biological mother, she'll always love you."

"B-but...they're my 'brothers'... I just don't know what to do.". I tightened my grip on the necklace. "I believe Mistress Marina will be delighted to know that one of her sons has such a relationship with a gorgeous young woman like you.". I hesitated, "B-but I'm still their sister, aren't I?".

"I can't see it that way.", the mirror replied, "They love you as a woman and I think Mistress agrees with me." I felt a warm hand on my cheek, but saw nothing around me, 'This warmth...'. My lips trembled, "M-mother?". The necklace glowed again and a golden silhouette appeared before me, "Y/N...". 

I tried touching her but my hands went straight through and the tears started running, "M-mother...come back...". She smiled faintly, "I'm sorry Y/N, what you see of me is only a spirit. I can't be here for too long but I need to reassure you. Remember: No matter what, I'll always love you, daughter or not. You've become a very important girl to me Y/N.".

She pecked me on the cheek, "I'm not sure if this upsets you Y/N, but my sons don't see you as their adopted sister anymore, but as a woman who they want to spend their futures with. I have nothing against it and won't stop them but you should tell them how you feel. If you choose to, you might as well be my daughter-in-law!". 

A volcano exploded on the cliffs of my cheeks, "M-m-mother...d-don't say that.". She laughed, "I'm being honest!". Her eyes narrowed, "Decide what you want. I love you.". Her silhouette began to disintegrate, "Mirror, check up on Y/N once in a while.".

"Yes, Mistress.", the mirror replied. She looked warmly into my eyes, "Take care Y/N~". The tears continued to fall but I smiled, "Thank you, mother. I love you.". The light disappeared and only the glowing water and I remained, "Miss Y/N, you should head home now." I nodded, "Goodnight, mirror~". I jumped off the rock and began heading home.

The morning was quiet as usual. I bolted out the door in silence, '*sigh* I'm going to have to face them soon.'. I stayed awake most of the night, thinking and it turned out my answer was always the same from the beginning.

The narrow street was quiet as usual. The first time I came here was nostalgic; where I first met Ajumma. 'I should visit her sometime.'. I pushed my key through the hole of the floral store's door but it didn't click. It automatically opened, 'Hmm? W-why is it opened?'. I peeked through; it was dark and quiet. 'Good, nothing seems to have moved.'. I flicked on the switch and, "Welcome~!".

"Aaaaah!". 7 figures welcomed me at the counter, startling me as I held onto my thumping chest, "O-o-oppas! You scared me!". They scratched their heads, giggling, "Sorry Y/N~". As I calmed down, I realised something, "W-wait, why are you here? You're supposed to be at home, in bed...". 

They pulled a sad smile, "But we haven't seen you in forever Y/N~". I averted my gaze, "Ah hahaha, sorry, I'm really busy...". I felt uneasy, "We know! So we've come to help you for the day! Then we can go home together!".

I froze in shock as my widened eyes returned to theirs, "Huh?! B-b-but aren't you busy?". Jungkook pointed to Namjoon, "He cancelled all our plans. It was our idea anyway so it's fine.". Looking at their excited expression, I sighed, "O-okay. Just for today.". They cheered. I took a quick look at their clothes; white and black shirts, black pants, apron, 'Woah. They're prepared already.'. I smiled, "Have you arranged flowers before?". They shook their heads together, "Nope!".
