The next morning Emily was awoken by a loud banging on her front door. She wasn't due to work at the clinic today so it couldn't be anyone relating to work banging at her door so early in the morning. Emily started to make her downstairs to answer the door before she heard whistles being blown. Her door was kicked in before she could answer it causing a startled scream to escape her lips.
"Oi! What the fuck do you think you're playing at!?" Emily shouted at the mass of police officers that started to ransack her house. "I said what do you think you're playing at?" Emily seethed as she grabbed a police man by their upper arm and swung them round to face her. As she done so the police man used this to strike Emily on her cheek.
"Miss Smith." An Irish accent interrupted the mayhem causing her to turn and face her front door where the man stood.
"It's Nurse Smith to you." Emily seethed at what she assumed to be inspector Campbell. "What do you want?" She asked as she stared into the face she could only describe as the face of the devil himself.
"I want to have a little chat, Nurse Smith. It seems you keep the wrong type of company." Inspector Campbell scrutinised as he walked further into Emily's house.
"I don't know what you mean Inspector." Emily stated as she turned around and looked at the police officers that were still turning her house upside down. "However, would you like to tell your attack dogs to leave." She finished and turned to give the Inspector a deadly look.
"Now you listen to me Miss." Inspector Campbell seethed as he started to make his way closer to the relatively small nurse.
"No, you listen." She cut him off before he had a chance to finish. "Get out of my house and take your men with you. If you want to talk to me you'll have to arrest me." Emily seethed as she stared down the inspector.
"I'll be in touch." Inspector Campbell muttered as he put his hat back on top of his head. "Good day to you Nurse Smith." He smirked and headed out of her house with his officers following behind.
Looking around herself Emily came face to face with the mess the police had left behind. With her face stinging and herself still trying to wake herself up, she slowly made her way towards what was left of her kitchen, being careful of the glass that littered the floor, to make herself tea before she had to make a start cleaning up. With a sigh she lifted a chair that was still intact and sat down observing the mess. It was obvious that the police were looking for something, otherwise why would they go about smashing up houses. Especially hers.
Glass and wood crunching under boots coming through her front door brought her out from her thoughts. "I told you to leave." Emily stated bluntly not looking up from her tea cup resting in her hands.
"What happened here?" Tommy asked. He already visited his aunt and found out that the new inspector had ransacked houses but he didn't think he would touch Emily's house. There was absolutely nothing that could tie her to the business apart from her war records and her ties to the family. But even those were kept a secret.
Emily slowly looked up from her tea cup and came face to face with the man himself. "What did you do?" Emily accused as Tommy picked up a chair and sat down in front of her. "And before you tell me not to worry about it, look around Tom. I'm bloody involved now aren't I."
Tommy let out a sigh before digging a hand into his pocket and brought out his cigarettes. Offering Emily one, she accepted and allowed him to light it waiting for an answer as to why the coppers had just ransacked the entire street. "Guns." Tommy stated after taking a drag of his cigarette.
"Guns?" Emily questioned with a frown. "What do you bloody mean Tommy? What bloody guns?" She asked as she tried to make sense out of the situation she had found herself in.
"It was supposed to be routine. I had a buyer in London for some motorcycles. I asked my men to steal me four bikes with petrol engines." Tommy started to explain. Emily could see that he was becoming trapped in his own mind but she needed to know what was going on. "I'm guessing my men were drunk. There's a still inside the factory that makes tram line gin. They picked up the wrong fucking crate." Tommy seethed causing Emily to reach across and hold his clenched fist in her hand allowing it to release some tension.
"What did they pick up Tommy?" Emily was too scared to ask.
"Inside we found 25 Lewis machine guns, 10,000 rounds of ammunition, 50 semi-automatic rifles, 200 pistols with shells. All bound for Libya." Tommy explained and looked at the floor.
"Jesus Tommy." Emily sighed as she rubbed her free hand over her face being careful of the bruise that had started to form from being hit. "Who needs that type of weaponry now? There's no war." Emily muttered to which Tommy only took another drag of his cigarette.
"I don't know Em. But we still have the guns and that's what this copper is after." Tommy finished explaining and braced himself for a Polly like outburst but was surprised that it didn't happen.
"I'm taking it that Polly knows." Emily asked to which Tommy nodded. "What do you need me to do Tommy?" Emily asked once again causing Tommy's head to shoot up with a surprised expression.
"Keep the new inspector away from any dealings, lead him away from the guns." Tommy said softly as he grasped her hand in his softly and stroked his thumb across the back of her hand. "You trod in some glass." Tommy pointed out and softly picked her foot up to rest it on the chair he was previously sat in.
"Could you grab my bag Tommy?" Emily asked as she started to inspect her foot. The cut wasn't too deep but there was small shards of glass still stuck in her foot.
Tommy quickly came back over with Emily's nurse bag and opened it, taking out some antiseptic and a bandage. "Give it 'ere." Tommy said softly as he gently wiped the blood off of her foot.
"Who would've thought that I'd have the most feared man in Birmingham treating my wounds." Emily joked causing Tommy to let out a small chuckle.
"Well, I think you've treated enough wounds." Tommy stated as he made eye contact with Emily.
"Just another thing to add to the list Tom." Emily shrugged as if it was nothing to her but Tommy Shelby wasn't buying it.
"I bet that list is getting rather full." He quizzed whilst keeping eye contact with her which caused her to shrug again not letting the fearsome gangster in. Letting out a sigh Tommy patted her shin and stood up and started to make his way out of her house. "I'll send Finn round later." He said as he reached her front door.
"Why Tommy?" Emily asked as she placed her foot gently on the floor.
"We're having a fire." Was all Tommy said with his signature smirk before turning and leaving the nurse rather stunned.
