"LETS START NOW,"
Miyamoto said to him, walking over to him and taking his hand in hers to bring him back into the classroom to sit down. The pair sat down at a few desks by the windows of the room and remained in silence until Ena began to open up the package of the matcha covered almonds he had gifted her a few moments back."...What are you doing?"
"Well before you start talking I want to eat some of this, like as a snack while you talk?"
"So like popcorn at movie theaters?"
"Sure, now, please do explain to me why you believe that love does not exist?"
Tsukishima sighed, snatching some of the matcha covered almonds that were in her hand and eating them before beginning to speak.
"Love does not exist because it does not exist."
She rolled her eyes, munching on some almonds.
"Nooo wow, I knew you were smart Tsukishima-san, but such logic goes beyond my comprehension," Ena replied sarcastically, annoyed by his vague response. "Be serious, we made a deal."
"You know, you're acting quite strange for a girl who claimed she liked me a few moments ago."
Ena blushed, embarrassed by the fact that she had indeed confessed to her senpai not too long ago.
"Shut up and reply to the question."
Kei took a moment to think before responding clearly.
"Love doesn't exist, only extreme infatuation does, which is why people often change their minds about their significant others."
"Really? Okay, then why do people get married? How do they remained married?"
"Infatuation isn't necessarily permanent, it can come and go. The thing is, people do not love other people they only love how those people make them feel."
"That's not true, there are people who selflessly love others without expecting the same in return," she argued, munching some more on the almonds.
"But not without wanting."
"False. So tell me about the girl," Ena said, leaning back into the chair.
Miyamoto Ena didn't really want to hear about the girl the boy she loved once loved, but she did. It was strange in a way. The first year knew that perhaps she would be hurt by hearing of this girl who once had everything she wanted, but at the same time, her desire to know more about him was stronger than her fear of getting hurt.
Kei, for the first time in a very long time, was nervous. Nervous to open up about such a private part of his life that only very few people had knowledge about. He found himself asking why he was going to share such intimate details about himself to a mere first year girl who seemed to be fond of him. But something within him knew he had to move on. He was going to graduate soon and couldn't live on with the ache and secrecy lingering within himself.
"We started dating in my second year of junior high. Her name was Katsumi- Uchiyama, Katsumi. I always liked her, even if she was a pain in the ass. We had known each other since my first year, Yamaguchi and her were good friends. That's pretty much it."
Ena remained silent before slapping his arm, which resulted in a chuckle from the older boy.
"I would like more details than that. Like what did you like about her? What did she look like? When did you realize you loved her? Why'd you break up?"
"Look, honestly, I don't know most of the answers to your dumb questions, but..." Tsukki paused, remembering the memories of the past that he had tried to push to the back of his brain for so long. "We were alike, but she was a more childish version. She reminded me of who I was before a lot of shitty things happened and maybe that's I felt the foolish need to protect and be nice to her... Then, for the first time in my life I wanted to be better. I wanted to be somebody she could always rely on so I worked myself to the bone, but in the end, it only resulted in the opposite. I became somebody who she could never rely on."
"I see..."
"I fell in what I once believed to be love, while she on the other hand, was falling apart and because of that, she left." he scoffed, letting out a bitter laugh. "The only time I ever intented to actually do something for somebody other than myself and it only resulted in... that. Actually the first time I actually tried at something in general, and it again, resulted in faliure. If it didn't work out- it is only logical that love does not exist."
Ena looked at the boy in sympathy and he only flushed red in embarassment at her face.
"Don't you dare pity me, it was just an illusion anyways," he told her, getting up from the seat and walking towards the door.
"So why are you still hung up on it?"
Tsukishima was not able to answer. Instead, he only walked out the door with only one thing on his mind.
Why did Miyamoto Ena have to be so annoyingly bothersome?
