TSUKISHIMA WAS SOON
finding it difficult to share his life with Miyamoto Ena. Before talking to her was the same as talking to a mere ant, he simply didn't care of what she thought, but now things were different. He had done things he wasn't proud of, and reluctance to tell her was seeping into his feelings. Sharing his thoughts, feelings and his past was starting to tear him apart. He knew she loved him and it was selfish but, he didn't want it to stop. It hurt him, but he had no doubt that if he ended things now, he would miss her.Three days had passed since the kiss and Ena was still thinking about it. Although they hadn't talked since, it wasn't like it was awkward. Not for either of the two, which certainly surprised Kei when they met up again after school. Neither of the the teenagers brought up had occurred, even when it was evident that the girl was still thinking about it. Not necessarily about the kiss itself but rather- why. Why did he kiss her? Did he like her? Did he love her? Was it just physical attraction and nothing else?
The brunette only remained silent, happily munching on some potato chips before realizing something, resulting in the widening of her bright eyes.
"Tsukishima-san, how was the strawberry shortcake? Did you like it?"
"I didn't hate it," Kei mumbled, also eating some potato chips, his mind distant.
"Awww. You know the opposite of love is not hate, it's indifference."
Tsukki froze. The words which had flown out of the girl's mouth seemed to be pretty relatable to him. He never loved anything but he certainly never hated anything either. He was just indifferent to everything around him. It had almost always been that way, sometimes even with his first love. Sometimes, he didn't care, other times he did. Sometimes he hated seeing her cry, whereas other times he enjoyed it. He really did find himself to be a sickening human being.
"You didn't come up with that."
"Never said I did. Actually Kageyama-san did," she told him, recalling Kageyama and her's conversation from a few hours prior.
This sparked Tsukishima's interest.
"Kageyama? Since when do you guys talk?"
Ena shrugged.
"Hmmm since he started teaching me how to set I guess. Sometimes we practice during lunch and stuff, he's actually pretty nice."
Tsukki felt an old yet familiar sensation fall upon his shoulders, weighing down the atmosphere. Chills ran up Ena's spine.
"Don't you 'love' me? See why I say it's only infatuation. Here you are shamelessly talking about another guy in front of me," the blond stated, flicking her forehead in irritation.
Miaymoto let out a cry.
"WUAHH! I'M SORRY I'M SORRY OK I DO LOVE YOU!"
Tsukishima rolled his hazel brown eyes and softly rubbed her forehead before pulling away without another word. The third year stood up, taking both of their bags.
"Let's go somewhere."
"Oh my God, are you asking me on a date, Tsukishima-san? How cute of you, I will gladly accept your-"
"No."
Ena blinked, frozen in her place before furrowing her eyebrows and crossing her thin arms.
"I'm sorry what?"
"It's not a date, I'm just hungry and can't stand eating more junk food. You pay for yourself."
The younger girl stood up with a lazy sigh, grudgingly following after him.
"Hai hai. Where shall we go, your highness?"
"I'm not Kageyama, don't call me that. And we're going to a cafe nearby."
"You're not hungry you just want strawberry shortcake don't even try to lie to me, I see right through you."
The whole way to the cafe, Ena laughed loudly and Tsukishima never took his eyes off of her, not once, afraid that she would disappear if he did. The girl simply did not seem real, but since she was, he refused to look away. Unaware that as soon as they entered the cafe, there was a certain pair of eyes on the pair.
"I'm going to use the restroom," he announced, setting down their stuff and heading off to do his buisness while she sat down at an empty spot near the windows.
The girl, so deep in thought about how they were currently on a date, was startled when somebody suddenly sat down in front of her. A girl.
Her short black hair was tied up in a ponytail and she seem to have just been on a jog. She was beautiful. Her eyes were a darkish blue with a tint of dark purple, something which seemed ethereal to Ena.
The stranger smiled.
"Hi, sorry to bother you, but are you and the guy who walked in here dating?"
Miyamoto blushed. Was that how it looked like? Like they were dating? How cute!
"No, we're just friends. I'm afraid he still likes somebody else," she replied honestly, shaking her hands in front of her face. "Why do you ask?"
"Ah well you see... That person and I used to date. My name is Uchiyama Katsumi... Honestly I was a bit surprised to see him since we haven't seen each other since we broke up... I thought my eyes were playing tricks on me."
Ena froze as all the memories flowed back into her brain. Tsukishima's words, his distant gaze, his feelings towards this one girl. How he genuinely loved her to the point of no return. The younger girl could see why. Katsumi was a beautiful third year who seemed to be very educated just by the way she spoke and held herself. She seemed kind, yet serious.
Miyamoto could not respond, still shocked by the girl in front of her.
"Well sorry for interrupting, he should be back soon but, here's my email if you want to know more about him. Surely I can help. Yamaguchi as well, if you know who that is."
The teenage girl felt like she was being looked down upon but nonetheless took the slip of paper from her fingers and nodded.
"Thank you."
Uchiyama nodded in response and took her leave, jogging out of the cafe before Tsukki returned to their table, refreshed and ready to order food.
"Say Miyamoto, are you gonna order as much as you did last time? I don't have that much time to spare," he teased lightly, but no reaction was given to the now stoic girl. "Miyamoto?"
"Sorry Tsukishima, my father called and he needs me to return home... You're hungry so stay. I can walk on my own."
Kei blinked, shocked by her sudden change in attitude. He had never seen Ena this way before. She felt distant, and he didn't like that. But he didn't ask nor insist. Instead, he only nodded in reply and gave her a wave.
"Can we... Reschedule for Saturday maybe? I know you don't like meeting up on weekends but I have exams to study for so I'll be busy these next few days and so will you with volleyball.."
The blond nodded again and she smiled lightly in response before leaving the cafe. Once she was gone, Tsukishima rested his forehead on the wooden table with a sigh.
'How bothersome of her... To leave like that.'
