it was quiet, and only the sound heard around the room was the constant typing of a keyboard. a teenage girl sat alone in her bed, with a laptop propped up at her knees, and one of her pillows to support in holding it. the open wind came in and blew her bangs from her face softly. she tucked away a loose strand of hair, and placed it behind her ear where a set of headphones stood.
her parents had just left a few minutes ago to take olivia and andy to their dentist's appointment. they wouldn't be back for hours, so she was stuck home alone with her sister and decided to take up writing to pass the time.
"bree!" gabby called from below. "conner's here!"
she jerked her head up and stopped the music blasting in her ears abruptly. closing her laptop, she quickly made her way downstairs to find conner waiting for her at the front door, in the hot pavement. his cheeks turned into a familiar shade when he saw her, and the sight of it made bree laugh.
"why are you laughing?" he said nervously.
"nothing," she chuckled, approaching him. "it's just funny on how even if i'd known you since eight grade, you still turn bright red and ramble all the time"
"well you can't blame me," conner said, teasing her back. "it's just part of my sodium allergy"
the pair grinned at each other for a while before bree's sister cut them off. "get a room you two!" gabby said, with an exasperated look on her face. she was seated at the living room sofa and had a hand on her phone, while she watched her sister's most uninteresting love life. bree shot her a dirty look from the other end of the room, and then returned in talking with conner.
"anyway, what's up?" she said coolly. "why'd you come?"
"do you have plans today?" conner asked her.
"no, i think im free" bree said.
"good!" conner said, looking a lot more excited now. "because alex and the others visited and i thought you'd want to come over"
that caught her attention. she quirked her eyebrows up and placed her headphones on her shoulders. "wait, what do you mean the others?"
"you know who they are" conner gave her a half-knowing smile.
"oh alright, im coming," bree said eagerly. "just give me a sec" she raced back upstairs to get her signature purple beanie that she wore at all times going out. coming back down, she went back to the living room to have a quick word with her sister.
"gabby, im going to be over at conner's for a while, can you take care of yourself?" she said.
"sure go, i'll tell mom" gabby said, not even looking up at her. her attention had now returned back to scrolling through hugh jackman posts online.
bree didn't seem to mind this at all. "alright!" she said. "see you, i'll be back in a few!"

streaks of golden light scattered itself across the neighborhood, while the sun slowly began it's descent downwards. a fine line stood between the clouds, with shades of orange, pink, and red, that filled the sky. a few hours prior to their arrival, charlotte and bob decided to invite the rest for an afternoon at the backyard. the group was gathered around a wide circular table just by the pool, as they sat in and lounged on biscuits and drinks.
"it's been far too long since i had this," goldilocks said. "i feel like i've met an old friend again" she was drinking a freshly brewed cup of coffee that bob just made and sighed contentedly as she took each sip of it.
