"Everything can change
at any moment,
suddenly and forever."
Paul AusterThe car comes to a stop, and Elle fixes her hearing aid as she climbs out with a grin on her face, her excitement obvious to everyone.
Elle inhales deeply as soon as her feet connect with the grass, each of the vampires hearing it.
"Enjoying the fresh air, Elle?" Rosalie calls out as she walks up to her human friend.
"You know it, Rosie," Elle attests with a laugh, hugging the blonde when she reaches her.The younger Swan greets each vampire with a hug and their nickname, her glee palpable and easily spread throughout the family.
Once Elle's hugged Esme and Carlisle, Jasper gravitates to her side, a habit he's formed over the past week.Jasper takes his cap off, placing it on the girl's head.
Elle giggles as she takes it off, standing on her tiptoes to put it back on the vampire's head, placing it skew as she says, "Thanks, but no thanks, Jazz."
After fixing the cap, Jasper's hand habitually reaches for Elle's, and within seconds, their hands are entwined, fingers interlocking without either consciously realising it's happening.
This whole interaction goes unnoticed by no one, and Jasper rolls his eyes at the emotions he senses from his adoptive family.
"Glad you two are here," Esme breaks the silence, hoping to alleviate the attention on Jasper and Elle, "We need an umpire."
"She thinks we cheat," Emmett states with a small smirk.
"That smirk makes me think you do cheat," Elle comments, Esme laughing and declaring, "I know you cheat."
Glancing between the Swan twins, the matriarch of the Cullen family says, "Just call them as you see them, girls."
"Of course," Elle responds at the same time Bella says, "Okay."
Everyone takes their positions on the field, Rosalie stepping up to bat while Alice stands ready to pitch.
Esme takes her place as catcher, Bella standing behind her while Elle stands to the side, more interested in watching the game than in umpiring.Lightning strikes, and Alice calls out, "It's time."
Rosalie gets into position, readying herself to hit the ball.
Alice throws her leg up, and quicker than Elle can comprehend, the ball is pitched and flying towards them.Swinging and hitting the ball, Rosalie starts running around the larger than usual field, from base to base, while Edward runs into the forest, chasing the ball.
"The thunder covers the sound of the batting," Elle remarks quietly, Jasper nodding in confirmation while twirling his bat in his hand, as Bella says to Esme, "That's got to be a home run, right?"
"They have super strength and super speed," Elle reminds her sister, Esme smiling as she glances between the twins as she states, "Edward's very fast."
"Come on Rosie," the younger Swan girl mumbles under her breath when she notices Esme getting ready to catch the ball.
Rosalie slides towards home base as Esme catches the ball, Elle sighing when Rosalie touches the plate after Esme has caught the ball and touched base.
Esme glances back at Bella, who immediately turns her gaze to Elle, her eyes pleading her sister to make the call.
"Sorry Rosie," Elle smiles comfortingly at her friend, "but you're out."
"Out! Whoa!" Emmett calls out in excitement, Rosalie turning and glaring at him as Elle offers her a hand.
"Not cool, Em," the Swan girl comments as she helps the blonde up from the ground.
