Chapter 1 - Settling In

"Ash! Ash!" Greg yells up his house's stairs to Ash, who was in his room drawing on his bed and hears Greg call out his Earth name, he says

"Yeah, Dad?" Greg replies shortly after

"Breakfast is ready!" Ash sets his pen down and stands up as he yells back

"I'll be down soon, Dad!" Greg yells back before he goes back to the kitchen

"Please tell Steven, too!" Ash heard Greg and went to do so as Greg goes back to making breakfast. It has been 15 years, meaning Ash is now 15 and Steven is 13. Steven was the real child of Greg and Rose, but in order for Steven to be born, Rose, being a gem, had to sacrifice her form to give Steven a form. Steven was messing with his ukulele at the time, he was humming the song he sang the crystal gems when he was little. Ash knocks on Steven's doorframe and says

"C'mon, bro. Breakfast time." Steven looks up at Ash and smiles with delight as he says

"Yay! I hope we're having pancakes." Steven them follows Ash downstairs and to the kitchen. Although he's half gem, Steven is also half human, which means he still has to eat food, despite a full gem not needing food, water, or sleep. He doesn't realize it, but Ash does not need food, water, or sleep either because of the Earth's yellow sun radiation providing him the nutrients he needs. Later on, Ash and Steven are eating breakfast with Greg, there was not much chatting since all three of them were eating until Greg said

"So, it's your last day's spending your nights at the ol' casa de Universe, are you excited to be living with the gems now?" Ash nods with a smile and says

"Yeah, Mom made them sound really cool. Hopefully, I can get used to them going out on their insane missions." Greg looks at Steven with the same amount of cheer and says

"What about you Steven?" Steven speaks with his food in his mouth because of how eager he wants to live with the other gems

"I'm really excited! We're gonna have so much fun!." Greg chuckles a bit when he says

"Yeah, I think you'll love spending more time with them!" Later on after breakfast, Steven and Ash go to pack up their things. Ash packs his own blanket, pillow, and clothes, but also other necessities such as his sketchbook, portable game console, and a pair of headphones. Steven finishes packing up before Ash and goes to check on him, he says

"Are you almost ready, Ash?" Still focusing on packing, Ash says

"Almost." Ash looks back at Steven and continues "What do you hope to expect once we get there?" Steven looks up in thought as he says

"I'm not sure, but I'm hoping we'll have lots of fun!" Ash laughs a bit and says

"I think you'll be mostly looking forward to how to use that gem on your belly button." Ash is finished packing and the two head downstairs. Steven is curious about Ash and asks

"Why do you think the gems want you to live with them if you're not a gem?" Ash wonders that same thought, but then looks at Steven with a smile to say

"Probably to look after you and make sure you won't get into trouble." Steven knew Ash was kidding, he had a feeling that couldn't be the real reason, so he just scoffs and says

"Yeah, right. It can't be just that." The two boys arrived downstairs and meet with Greg, who was waiting by the front door to say goodbye to them, he says

"Well, boys, it's time that you both left the nest." Greg gets down to one knee and places his hands on their shoulders as he says "Just remember to be safe and that if you ever need me, you know where to find me!" Ash nods as Steven says
