It was the year of 2009, the first time I stepped in the house. It was beautiful, I thought. My aunt started to showing me around and welcoming me in her space that I called home. I knew that I have to get used to it. The house was nothing like I expected. It's interior design was nothing I've seen before.
She showed me everything, from the kitchen to the balcony and even the pool outside. The house was on the third floor and the pool was facing the living room. It was a breathtaking sight, seeing all the children playing at the playground in the pool itself. It was a tiny playground but to me at that point of time, it was ginormous. Then she showed me a certain room. It was really large, there was a wall that was replaced by a shelf filled with toys, the kind of toys that boys would play with. That detail sparked confusion in my mind as to why they was there. She guided me in the room and told me that this room was mine now. But the room was painted blue. I just stood there dumbfounded. She saw the confused look on my face and immediately knew why. She came close and knelt down to my height with a smile and told me there was a surprise. That I was going to meet someone.
Hearing that from her, I understood everything. I was going to share this room with someone and I got excited. I was going to have a companion that I could share everything with. She saw the excitement on my face and kissed my forehead. Telling me how glad she was to have me under her care. I too, was glad. As much as I missed my grandaunt, I knew that she would not be able to care of me anymore due to the situation she was in. I continued admiring the room and thought through everything my aunt told me. It felt like there weren't any kind of rules to follow. It was not like I had any before but this felt like I was more liberated to do what I wanted.
I was excited to begin this new life, a whole new beginning. I was brought back to reality by a grumble in my stomach hinting me that I was hungry. I made my way to the kitchen to grab a bite. It felt weird to me, opening up the cupboards to find food but I had to adapt to the changes. I went on a whole minute to find for something, the cupboard was filled with food, there were so many varieties and I had tons of choices. Suddenly I heard the front door open and a voice was heard. I instantly knew who it was, my new roommate. I was excited, but nervous too.
Suddenly all the hunger in my stomach vanished and was replaced with nervousness. My mind was instantly filled with 'what ifs'.
What if he doesn't like me? What if he never knew about me moving in? What if he doesn't want me to share the room with him.
I pushed all those thoughts out of my head and gathered all the courage I had, stepping out of the kitchen. That was when my eyes laid on him.
His hair was a jet-black mane. He had large eyes with thick and long eyelashes, it almost looked fake. He was thin but slightly taller than me. He looked exactly like my aunt, meaning that he was her son and he was my cousin.
Both of our eyes met and he froze, stopping in his tracks and the smile vanished from his face. His features contorted into confusion which was soon hit with realization. My aunt pulled us together and we stood facing one another. We stared at each other for what felt like a really long minute, then he smiled at me and I sent one back. He put out his hand and introduced himself, Jack.
And so naturally I thought to myself, that this was going to be a great start. Since he doesn't hate me.
