Morning the next day, Atlas got up and immediately visited the spot where he first saw the boy and waited for him to come. Hours passed by yet he didn't show up. He waited and waited. Then came the boy at last to play with his friends.

He approached him carefully with the hood of his cloak covering his head. "Boy." He grabbed his shoulders. The boy turned to face him. "I need to talk to you." He guided him to a place less crowded than where they are. "I know you're the one who killed those seraphim." The boy flinched and turned away.

"Wait." Atlas grabbed him. "Please, I need your help. And you could use mine." The boy said nothing. "I'm with the Resistance. I can help you hide from those who are hunting you."

"And what do you want me to do for you in exchange?" the boy finally spoke.

"First, we'll have to get out of this city."

The boy's face displayed doubt. "I'll have to ask my mother about that one."

"Let's go see your mother, then." Atlas said.

The boy still held suspicion towards Atlas. What if he's a spy working for the angels? But at the same time, he sensed good in him so he decided to take a leap of faith and led him to his home.

"Mother," the boy said. "I'm home."

His mother came into sight. She saw her son and an unfamiliar face. "And who might this be, Ferdinand?"

"Miss, I need to talk to you," Atlas said.

Ferdinand's mother gasped. Her hand flew to cover he gaping mouth. "What did he do this time?"

"Nothing," Atlas replied calmly. "I'm Atlas, part of the Resistance. I've recently come to find out that your son is being hunted for killing a dozen seraphim, is that right?" The woman froze silently as if she got struck by a lightning.

"I want to bring your son out of Masonmore," Atlas continued. "Would that be alright with you?"

The woman was still unable to speak.

"If he remains here, then the chances of him being caught and executed would be higher compared to being in another city as the word was that the murder occurred here in Masonmore." He added more reasons to try convince her.

"No," she finally said. "You're not taking my son away from me."

"If I won't, then they will."

"He'll be able to fend for himself just as he did the last time." She was strong willed, Atlas would give her that.

"I don't think he'll be able to fend off an army, though." Atlas was still trying to persuade her. "And it will only be a matter of time before they find him. As far as I'm concerned, I've heard that an inquisitor is already in the city."

Her face turned pale. Atlas started to wonder if the woman was actually paranoid.

"If he comes with me," he continued. "I'll lead him out of Masonmore and into the Resistance base up north."

The woman shed a tear that ran down her cheek. "Alright. Take him." Ferdinand came to hug her. "Be safe, my son. Now go get your things."

Ferdinand left them both and started gathering his belongings that he'll need. The woman and Atlas didn't talk again afterwards, just complete silence between the two of them.

"I'm ready." Ferdinand came back into sight. His clothes were changed from that of his everyday clothes to that of a leather tunic with a cloak over it. He hugged his mother one last time before heading out with Atlas.
