Chapter 10

"Happy Birthday to you," Dean began to slowly wake up confused,"happy birthday to you, happy birthday dear Dean, happy birthday to you." At this point Dean had sat up to see AJ, Roman, their parents, and Seth. AJ had a cake in her hands decorated with blue frosting and candles that spelt out "happy birthday."

"Make a wish Dean," AJ spoke and Dean closed his eyes for a little bit before blowing the candles out. They all clapped and Roman took the cake downstairs while AJ plopped herself next to Dean.

"Did you make that cake?" Dean asked kissing her on the cheek.

"I decorated it my mom made the actual cake," AJ smiled as Dean hugged her tightly. AJ had never felt this type of feeling before where something so simple could overwhelm her in happiness.

AJ began kissing him and Dean gladly kissed back. He had never gotten attached to anything that made him feel good, other than drugs. A part of him hated how vulnerable he was to AJ but the other part loved it. He felt cared for. He felt important. Roman knocked on the door making them pull apart and creating a bit of an awkward vibe.

"Dean your birthday breakfast isn't gonna eat itself," Roman awkwardly said not liking the fact his baby sister was being kissed by a guy. Even if it was a guy he trusted.

AJ and Dean walked into the kitchen behind Roman and they all enjoyed a good breakfast. Waffles, bagels with eggs and bacon, and some hash browns. Dean excused himself into the bathroom and did his normal routine except this time he felt more guilt than usual. He had the closest thing to a family in the other room yet he couldn't go even 2 hours without at least a bump. He didn't realize how long he had been in his thoughts till someone knocked on the door.

"Who is it?" Dean asked quickly putting his things away.

"It's Seth you okay in there? You've been in there for a while," Seth answered. Seth had known Dean the longest and knew nearly everything about Dean. As much as AJ was fooled, along with everyone else, Seth was not. Dean opened the door unable to look into Seth's eyes longer than a second. Seth shoved Dean inside and walked in closing(and locking) the door. "Empty your fucking pockets."

Dean's cheeks flared up unable to move. He should've been smarter. Dean complied and shakily took everything out. "Look Seth I got it under control I'm fine."

"If you were fine you wouldn't get a nose bleed every couple of days," Seth grabbed everything he took out and put them in his jackets pocket.

"It's not every couple of days don't be dramatic."

"Dean your nose shouldn't be bleeding at fucking all! That doesn't happen when things are under control," Seth came off as angry but he was more concerned. Not only for Dean's health but for AJ. How would she react if she found out?

"Look Seth I'm fine okay? You see me? Absolutely fine. Things are great and it just makes things greater," Dean tries convincing Seth but he wouldn't budge and instead left the bathroom back into the kitchen to help clean up.

Dean followed behind and hugged AJ from behind as she was trying to collect dirty plates. She giggled and broke free to put the plates in the sink. As much as he wanted to tell AJ he never could. It would make him a bad guy and it just wasn't his place to say anything. It would come out eventually.

This was the first day where Dean would go without coke longer than a couple of hours for a few weeks, or months. But it was okay he had AJ. Throughout the day AJ gave him endless surprises. Gave him new pants, shirts and a basket full of his favorite snacks. Dean attacked her with kisses after opening each item.

"God you make me so happy you know that?" Dean said after his last gift with AJ on his lap.

"You don't even understand how happy you make me feel," AJ kissed him deeply. AJ was comfortable with Dean in ways she never thought she could be comfortable. "Dean, no one's home you know."
