That night when I got home, Marianna was nowhere to be found. I waited up until dawn just for the chance to confront her. Once seven o' clock hit, I gave up and went to bed. I didn't tell anyone what I saw. She needed to be the person I heard it from because she was the one who lied to me.
The next afternoon, I woke up to an empty apartment. If she never came home, where was she? Raven and Jasper shared an apartment so I refused to believe that Mari spent the night with him. This was horrible. That's why I needed to speak with her: I didn't want to be thinking the worst of her.
After showering and getting dressed, I decided to finish up a paper that I had been working on for my criminology class. About half a page later, my phone lit up with a text. Thinking it was my roommate, I anxiously grabbed it. Instead, it was a certain curly headed boy that had somehow slipped my mind.
I let out a small chuckle as I read the message where he whined about being forgotten about. When I replied that I had been doing work, he offered to stop by with an iced coffee, because of course, he needed help with the same assignment.
"So how much have you done so far?" I asked Reece as we settled at my kitchen table.
A small smile played at the corner of his lips. He slipped off his leather jacket which he proceeded to hang up on the back of his chair. His muscles flexed under his white v-neck, as he scratched the back of his neck before answering. "About that..."
"Reece!" I exclaimed. "No way you never started. It's due Monday night!"
"Exactly, so I have tomorrow and Monday to work on it," he shrugged.
Ah. Procrastination at its finest. So far, all that university had taught me was to finish a six page paper in less than a day. Because a lot of social science work revolves around research and papers, I had quite a bit of practice with that. But you know what they say: C's get degrees. Surprisingly, I was doing very well in my classes, as I had always been a good essay writer, but to say these deadlines were kicking my ass was even an understatement.
After a few hours, darkness had settled outside and we had moved to the couch near the lamp. I had managed to get Reece to at least finish all of his research, so that writing his paper wouldn't be so hard. As I typed my last words, I shouted with glee, "I'm done!"
I did a little dance and put my laptop down on the coffee table. When I looked over at Reece, he had a look of wonder set upon his face.
"What?" I asked, scrunching up my nose.
He shook his head. "You're kinda cute sometimes."
"You're not too bad yourself on occasion," I grinned back.
Reece set his laptop next to mine and pulled me down onto his lap. For a second we stared into each other's eyes. I found myself lost in his gaze, unable to look away, as I felt my heartbeat pick up. What felt like forever passed, and I turned my head, shifting my view to the couch. Almost instantly, he gently placed his hand on my chin and turned my head back towards him.
"No commitment. No feelings," I found myself saying aloud.
Without missing a beat, Reece replied, "Who said anything about feelings?"
Ignoring the slight pang in my heart, I retorted, "You looked like you were lost in my eyes for a second, lover boy."
"Lost in your eyes, no," he stated. "Thinking about how sexy it'd be to fuck you on that kitchen table, yes."
"Mhm," I smirked, holding back from telling him that I would do it with him on that couch, on my bed, on that table, in the shower, hell, even in Marianna's bed. Served her right for keeping secrets from me.
He looked at me with a sultry stare as he slowly stood up, hands placed firmly under my thighs, and carried me over to the kitchen table. I lightly kissed along his jaw. Before I reached his lips, I paused to take off his shirt. The second his shirt hit the floor, there was a knock at my front door.
"Ignore it," he groaned, tangling his hand in my curls and slightly tugging them down.
Another set of knocking came before I could reply. I whined in frustration and gently pushed Reece off of me. So much for checking another thing off of the list. It was really a fantasy to have sex on something that wasn't a bed. The whole point of that bucket list was to spice up my life.
I pulled the door open and saw an adorable looking Andre. "Hey, Mal," he said with a boyish grin.
"Andre man, timing, please," complained a shirtless Reece, appearing by my side. I playfully slapped his chest.
Andre looked at Reece then me, and continued this back and forth for another second or two. He furrowed his eyebrows. "I never knew you guys were a thing."
We both shook our heads vigorously. Simultaneously, we repeated, "No commitment. No feelings," followed by a laugh.
Reece draped an arm around my waist, his thumbs rubbing circles on my hip. Electrcity danced wherever he touched. In my head, I begged Andre to just say goodnight and go back to his apartment. My wishes were denied when Sierra appeared by his side. I was reminded of the first time we met and I couldn't help but chuckle. "Hey, Si."
"Mal!" She hugged me tightly. "We're having a movie night at Andre's come over please! Raven and Jasper are on their way up. Where's Mari?"
I shrugged. "Beats me, I haven't seen her since last night," Well, at least I knew she wasn't with Jasper.
As if just now noticing the shirtless boy next to me, Sierra's eyebrows raised. "Oh!" she said in her cute little high voice. "I didn't realize you had company."
Reece laughed, a lovely sound that I could feel vibrating against my back. "I feel like you guys did that on purpose but..."
Sierra and I giggled. "We're coming," I finally said.
Reece rolled his eyes and sighed dramatically. "Fine," he slapped my butt and went to retrieve his shirt. I slid on my slippers and we all headed over next door.
Andre's apartment was set up almost exactly like mine. It was a mirror opposite. We walked in and found spots on the couch while Andre went to make some popcorn.
I sat and scrolled on my phone until I heard the door open, followed by a, "What's up bitches."In walked Jasper, Raven, and none other than Marianna.
