It had been about two weeks since the sleepover. I had been spending a lot of time with the girls: going for lunch; studying; going shopping. Really, it had been to cheer Sierra up, but it proved good for my soul as well. After not hearing from me for a few days, Reece had begun to worry about me. Still not ready to face rejection, I waved him off with the excuse that Sierra needed us.
Raven, Mari, Sierra, and I were sitting in various corners of my room having a study session. Well, we were up until Marianna screamed, “I’ve had enough!”
Raven stopped spinning on my chair, her wild red hair falling in frizzy sections to her shoulders. “I literally took a break twenty minutes ago and haven’t picked up my laptop since then.”
“I’ve been scrolling on Twitter for the past ten minutes,” giggled Sierra sheepishly.
“You guys are horrible!” I faked astonishment.
Mari rolled her eyes. “Bitch, I was looking at your laptop. You’ve been online shopping since Raven started flying around on your chair.”
I grimaced at having been caught, while everyone laughed. “Okay, fine. I think we’re done for the night.”
Raven threw some popcorn at me, which I failed to catch with ease. “Finally. I also ordered food a while ago, so you’re welcome. Should be here in twenty minutes.”
“Just enough time for a smoke sesh!” clapped Marianna.
“You’re right, we deserve it. We’ve been super focused on school this week. I’m proud of us!” I joined in on her excitement.
Marianna began to roll and we were smoking in no time. When we all shared the same slanted eyes and dopey smiles, she said, “Okay, in all seriousness-”
Raven bursted out in laughter. “Dude! You can’t say that and not expect me to die.”
“Shut up!” Mari shot back, throwing a pillow at her. “As I was saying. I want complete honesty: have you ever seen a baby pigeon? No you haven’t, because they don’t exist.”
I tackled Marianna and started throwing punches, though my body was moving slower than I had hoped. “You’re such an idiot! Don’t scare me like that!”
She failed to dodge my attacks due to having to clutch her stomach from laughing too hard. When I was out of energy, I laid down beside her on my bed.
“She’s not wrong, though,” whispered Sierra, as if she was about to spill a huge secret. “Pigeons are man-made, planted by the government as spies.”
I couldn’t help but laugh at her matter-of-fact tone, while Marianna praised her for “seeing the truth” and being on her side. When I noticed that Raven was unusually quiet, I sat up.
“What’s this?” she asked, holding something up.
“Oh, that’s our uni bucket list,” I replied, not thinking anything of it. It wasn’t until Mari shot up and smacked my arm that I realized what I had said. I looked at her with wide eyes and mouthed, “Sorry!”
“Really? There’s not much on here,” Raven said as she read the page.
Mari rolled her bloodshot eyes at me. “Yeah, it was only for this year.”
“That sounds fun!” exclaimed Sierra. “Why didn’t you tell us about it?”
I shrugged. “It was made before we met you guys and we wanted to just keep it between us.”
“Not fair, I’ve known you guys forever!” pouted Raven.
It was my turn to roll my eyes. “You’re always with Jasper! We hardly really hung out, just the three of us.”
