Pairing(s): Drarry
A/N: Just for context, Voldemort doesn't exist in this dimension, the golden trio are still friends, but with Draco included.
Harry POV:
Oh my god. The day has finally come. The day that I will propose to my boyfriend of 10 years has finally come.
Me and my boyfriend, Draco, started dating back in 6th Year when we finally told each other our feeling. I had always known I was gay and thankfully, my parents and their friends were completely fine with, seeing as I have two gay married uncles.
At Hogwarts, Draco was sorted into Slytherin while I was put in Gryffindor with Ron and Hermione, my two best friends.
Yes, Draco and I have been dating for a very long time as we start dating when we were 16. I have been in love with him since I was 18 and luckily, so has he. I have been planning this proposal for 5 years now because it was never a question of who I was proposing to (Draco, obviously), it was simply a question of when.
I have the proposal all planned out. First, we will go to dinner at around 7:30, finish up by 9:00, then I will apparate us to the Black Lake at Hogwarts, which is where we had our first kiss. Then, by the moonlight, I will get down on one knee, ask the question, and hopefully, Draco will say yes.
Amazing plan, right?
It will be amazing if I can ever gather up the courage to do it. I don't want to chicken out at the last minute and ruin it. Or worse, he says no.
It's 7 when Draco comes downstairs, looking amazing in ripped jeans and a white shirt. I walk up to him and kiss him on lips, a smile on both our faces.
"So, where are we going, love?", Draco asks.
"You'll see," I say nervously, still on the verge of backing out.
I drive us to the restaurant because it is too risky to apparate in muggle London. We head inside, order our food, and talk about everything. Even after living together for years, we still never run short of things to talk about. He tells me about his shift at St. Mungo's and we joke around as we finish our food. I pay and we head back to the car.
It's now or never. I have to apparate us to the Black Lake now in order for me to propose to the love of my life, but I can't. I am too scared and very nervous. I simply drive us back home, him happy as always and me very disappointed in myself.
I am the son of James and Lily, raised by the Marauders, and I can't even propose properly. So then I did something crazy stupid.
That night, when Draco was fast asleep, I took the ring out of the box and delicately slipped it onto his finger. Luckily he didn't wake up, but god knows what will happens when he notices it in the morning. Soon, I fell into an uneasy sleep, not at all prepared for tomorrow.
Draco POV:
It's 9 o'clock when I wake up. I turn around to see Harry still fast asleep, his arm around my waist. He is so cute, I don't understand how my younger self was able to not kiss him every time he came into view.
I gently remove his arm from my waist and kiss him on the forehead. I get up and go to the bathroom to brush my teeth and wash my face.
As I look down at my left hand, I notice something different on my finger, something that wasn't there when I went to sleep last time.
A diamond engagement ring.
I push myself away from the sink in shock. How did this get here? It wasn't there in the night, right? Did Harry propose to me and I forgot about it? There were a million more questions running on my mind. Shocked and confused, I head outside to our bedroom, where Harry had woken up and was sitting on the bed.
He smiled when he saw me and said, "Good morning, Dray."
I mumble, "Morning," still really confused. So I decided to ask him about the ring.
"Hey Har, so I woke up and, uh, I noticed a ring on my finger...?"
Harry POV:
Shit.
He noticed.
Well, of course, Draco noticed, he's not an idiot like me. I have to tell him the truth now, so I do.
"Draco, I can explain. You see, yesterday, after we finished eating, I was meant to take you to the Black Lake at Hogwarts, where we had our first kiss. I was going to propose to you there. But I backed out at the last minute because I was so nervous and scared. I did want to propose to you yesterday though. So, at night, I removed the ring from the box and slipped it onto your finger, without your knowledge.
"I know it's really stupid and weird and I'm sorry, Dray. You can remove the ring if you want, you don't have to keep it on if you don't want to. I am not going to force a marriage on you," I say, looking intently at the ground to avoid meeting Draco's eyes.
I feel tears prick my eyes but I blink them away. I had to ruin a wonderful thing, didn't I? The best thing that ever happened to me is gone, just like that.
Suddenly, I feel, the bed go down like someone just sat on it. I held my face in my hands, my eyes closed.
I feel Draco's hand on my shoulder, which is very comforting.
"You know, I have waited so long for this," Draco says.
"Really?", I ask, turning my head to face him.
"Yeah. Since we started dating, I always had a feeling that you would be the one I would marry, the one I would call my husband. I didn't care who proposed, when it happened, or how it happened, I just hoped that one day it would happen.
"So imagine my surprise when I saw the ring on my finger. I was about to have a break down thinking that I forgot about the moment you proposed to me. Turns out, you hadn't. Even though you haven't actually asked the question, I still say yes," Draco explains with a smile on his face.
"Really?", I ask again.
"Really," he answers, nodding his head.
"Well, then," I say, picking Draco's hand up and removing the ring from it. "Who says I can't ask the question now?"
Draco laughs and responds, "Please do."
"Dray, I have loved you for god knows how long. Every day that passes by, it cements the fact that you are the one I'm meant to be with, my other half, my soulmate. I know that this proposal is not as good as the one I was meant to do yesterday, but my feelings for you have not changed a bit. I would love to call you my husband, if you would let me. So, Draco Malfoy, will you marry me?", I ask, down on one knee, my hand shaking with nervousness and tears in my eyes.
"Of course I'll marry you, Harry," Draco says as I can see him blink back tears. I slip the ring onto his finger again, this time permanently and with his knowledge.
Draco bends his face down to meet my eyes, cupping my face in his hands and kissing me, gently and full of love. I kiss him back and with our lips still connected, I stand up and push him back, causing him to fall on the bed.
My proposal may not have gone as planned, but I couldn't have asked for a better start to my new life.
