The following day at lunch, Max asked Sydney, Kirby, and I if we wanted to come take a tour around THI this Saturday with his mom. Despite my last THI tour being boring and nearly getting killed because of whatever was happening, I still said yes. If it was with Max, then I felt safe.
"You sure about it, Y/n? From what you told us about your experience, you didn't like it that much." Sydney said. "This is different. Because I'm going to be with people I know. I thought Naught was going to give me a tour of his cult but he didn't and that's part of why I didn't like it then." I said.
"Then its settled. I'll let my mom know you three are coming. She's also going to treat us to lunch after the tour." Max mentioned. "Awe sweet! Your mom is the best Max." Kirby says. I on the other hand, couldn't help but let my mind wander back to last night's conversation. "Are you still thinking about dinner last night?" Max's voice asked bringing me back to reality.
I nodded. "What do you mean?" Kirby asked. "My mom invited Max and his mom over for dinner. And when my mom started talking about my dad, he had a reason for making my mom and I move. And it was for my safety." I said.
"You don't have to talk about it. Why don't you go take some time to yourself." Sydney suggests. I nodded and got up to leave. Max also got up surprising us. "Where are you heading?" I asked. "I've got to go to the bathroom. Lunch isn't setting well." Max said before leaving. I watched him confused but went to get my breather. After I heard the bell ring to get to class, I went through the rest of my school day.
By the time Saturday came around, I got to THI and saw Max, Sydney, and Kirby waiting for me outside. "Hey." Max greeted. I gave a small smile and we went inside. Max lead the way and as we were walking through the hallway to Ms. McGrath's office, a guy and a fishbowl were being carried out of there by security guys.
"You can't fire me. I gave this place my genius. And this is how you repay me? I'll be back!" The guy says. I rolled my eyes while Kirby got video of the guy. "And I thought this trip was going to be boring like Y/n said." Kirby says.
"Oh, kids. Welcome to THI." Molly says. "Thanks again for inviting us here, Ms. McGrath." Sydney says. "My pleasure, Sydney." Molly says. "This place is awesome. You have the coolest job in the world." Kirby says.
"Oh, I don't know about that Kirby. Since I took over and started cleaning house, I've been discovering all sorts of unsavory experiments and initiatives." Molly explained. I sighed as Kirby looked into a room we were passing by. "Like I said, awesome." Kirby says.
Max took the opportunity to pull him back so we could continue. As we continued walking, I heard Max chuckle to himself when he spoke. "I'll say." He says. "You'll say what?" Sydney asked. I eyed Max suspiciously until I remembered about the controller fritzing out when he touched it.
"I'll say that you sure do look nice today Sydney." Max says quickly. My heart sank at his comment. It was just like hearing he had gone out with Sydney while I was at THI. "Oh. Thanks Max." Sydney says while turning to continue following Molly. Max sighs in relief until he glanced over and saw Kirby giving him a weird look.
"You okay, Max?" I whispered to him as we walked. He nodded his head then jogged towards his mom. "So, who was that guy they were dragging out of your office Mom?" Max asked, ignoring me. "Dr. Xander? A research scientist gone bad. He was supposed to develop a formula that could eradicate every type of pollutant known to man but instead, he created potions more dangerous than any pollutant could ever be. Anyway, he's gone now." She says.
