The next few days, I'm just chilling with Butch, hoping Max will realize that it was him choosing Sydney over me. I was actually excited to go to the pier anyways. Because the following day, we'll be on a field trip to watch a rocket launch. I just had to endure the moment I came home from a fun day with Butch, to a shit show seeing Max at the table.

I didn't want to make the situation obvious to his mom but my mom could read my mind from a mile away. Curse mother telepathy.

"Y/n, we are discussing this tonight. You can't stay mad at Max forever. It's childish." Mom stated. Molly raised an eyebrow while glancing towards me. "What did Max do?" She asked.

"It's nothing." I seethed. I take my plate and reluctantly sit next to Max.

"All you've told me or what I've heard from your friends, is that this happened when Miles attacked you all. I still don't believe that your father's friend is alive." Mom sighed. "You knew him? He was friends with my husband and brother before his death. And that was the same day my husband passed too." Molly stated. "F/n couldn't bear staying here when he heard about the death. Y/n was only a few months old when this happened. She was looking in her father's stuff a few days ago." Mom explained.

I didn't even want to listen to the conversation but I also didn't want to talk to Max. "So, what's up with you and Butch now?" He whispered. Mentally, I grinned as this whole plan was indeed working. I could actually hear the jealousy in Max's voice when he asked. Keeping my face neutral to an almost glare, I answered.

"It's not much. Butch has been helping me out and I return the favor. And he even asked if I wanted to go to the pier this Sunday." I stated. The adult conversation stopped immediately. "You're going on a date!? But. But-" my mom sounded surprised.

As much as I wanted to say that it wasn't a date, I just went with it. Max especially looked like he was on edge and I'm sure Steel was chatting away in his head. "I mean, I wouldn't call it that. Butch asked me this last weekend, after I ran out. He took me for a run and then he brought it up. Nothing too special." I shrugged.

"Sweetie, my first date with your father was at the pier. The games and the beach were enough for me to leap into our relationship. If you're sure about this boy, I guess I shouldn't mind as much. Though I really wanted it to be Max." She muttered the last part. I couldn't help but silently laugh and groan. My mother wants me to be with Max. She, unbeknowingly, wants those Turbo powered babies. I guess I've got another Max x Y/n supporter.

"But Butch? He's a bully at school. He shoved Kirby into my locker during the fire." Max argued. "And everyone knows that he saved Sydney and I from the fire. And the robots from lunch." I pressed. Something flickered in Max's eyes and it was clear as day that he was jealous, annoyed, and downright ready to shove Butch off the canyon edge. Max was pissed.

And I felt the need to continue. Only because the outcome Butch and I had intended was already near. Max deserves this, in my opinion.

"He came over Saturday because he was worried about me. I then found Butch waiting for me in the park after I failed at clearing my head. He actually made me feel better when we ran. And hanging out with him these last few days has helped me so much. The pressure I had felt from that attack was actually lifting." I stated. Max instantly stood up and he left to go home.
