Troye's POV-
Tyler and I grab a quick breakfast before heading to homeroom. A few of his friends drag him away from me while we were talking. He looks over his shoulder and mouths 'sorry'. I just smile and wave but I feel the heat in my hands from anger. I'll never be anybody's first choice. The sooner I accept that, the better off I will be. So I push Tyler to the back of my mind and ignore his and Zoe's laughing and focus on the reminders on the board instead. Just before the bell rings, Tyler runs back to me so we can walk together to ancestry and personal. Tyler and I take our seats on the back, already giggling and poking at each other. We are already on the teachers good side from doing so good on explaining our auras so it's ok if we mess around. Tyler's cheeks are rosy and his laugh is hypnotizing. I am so glad I made fast friends with him. He really is the only true friend I have here. Sure Tyler's friends are nice to me now but nowhere near being my friends.
"Troye?" Tyler says snapping fingers in front of me and laughing quietly.
"Sorry, I'm back now" I say and crack a smile. Tyler just shakes his head nervously and turns to the front of the room.
I follow the lessons shall heartedly until magic and spells. This is by far my favorite subject...until we have to perform anyway.
"Alright partner up!" Mrs. Blaray says and claps her hands in a hurry.
Tyler and I scoot impossibly closer to each other. I swear we have magnets pulling us together.
"We're trying simple creation and destruction spells today!" Mrs. Blaray says excitedly and puts a few spells on the board. All of which I have beyond perfected. Tyler scoffs and turns back to me. He rolls his eyes and starts rambling off the short spells. I do mine next. We finish before some groups have the first one down. I decide to show off a little something for Tyler instead of us sitting and doodling in silence.
"Look at this," I say and draw a picture in flames then concentrate on it, making the flames move and change the picture.
"Tyler watches intently, smiling at the mini movie I'm playing out, a love story.
The next class Tyler and I have together is choir. The teacher was out, so the substitute left us to work on individual pieces of music or tryouts for solos. I quickly claim the grand piano. I don't think anybody else can even play this but I still run to the small room with it. I take a seat and tune the keys. I start playing the opening chord, the music coming naturally after memorizing it at my house over the summer. I love this song, for many reasons.
I go right into the music and join with the vocals.Hold, hold on, hold onto me
'Cause I'm a little unsteady
A little unsteady
Hold, hold on, hold onto me
'Cause I'm a little unsteady
A little unsteadyMama, come here
Approach, appear
Daddy, I'm alone
'Cause this house don't feel like homeIf you love me, don't let go
If you love me, don't let goHold, hold on, hold onto me
'Cause I'm a little unsteady
A little unsteady
Hold, hold on, hold onto me
'Cause I'm a little unsteady
A little unsteadyMother, I know
That you're tired of being alone
Dad, I know you're trying
To fight when you feel like flyingBut if you love me, don't let go
If you love me, don't let goHold, hold on, hold onto me
'Cause I'm a little unsteady
A little unsteady
Hold, hold on, hold onto me
'Cause I'm a little unsteady
A little unsteadyHold, hold on, hold onto me
'Cause I'm a little unsteady
A little unsteadyI finish the last chord and take a deep breath. I open my eyes from where I let them fall shut, I tend to get lost in my music and look up. I see the door is open and multiple people are Poking their heads in, Tyler being one. I feel my cheeks heat up and I look down.
"That was amazing, Troye," Tyler says and the few other kids nod in agreement. I look up to them and smile. Then one of them starts to panic and points to the piano. The whole thing is iced over. I stare down at my hands and gape at what I see. Ice flurries are dancing in my palm. But now that I am noticing them they are turning into the blue flames that usually appear when I'm scared. Tyler walks over and glides his hand along the smooth ice. the other kids are still standing there and Tyler looks over laughing.
"Somebody left a spell on this old thing," Tyler says and laughs. The other kids seem to have a moment of realization then walk away indifferent on the origin of the ice.
"Let's talk about this later," Tyler whispers into my ear and walks out of the room.
I have more than one elemental power. I know what they do with those with more than one element. I can only imagine what they would do to a multielemntal with fire as a primary. I look down to my hands. Just how many elements do I have?
-------
Tyler's POV-
I leave Troye with the piano. I'm sure he'll just heat it up a little and melt the ice. What was bothering was the fact that there was ice. All the kids standing in the doorway watching Troye with me were brand new to the academy and had no idea what elements were none the less how to use them like that. Barely anybody could use a power without direct contact, which leaves Troye as he was playing. A fire making ice. This concept was completely foreign to me. I needed to talk to him but not here. I didn't know much about multielemntal but I have a distant memory of a multielemental in my town being taken away when I was young. I guess our guardians saw them as threats. That's why Troye and I can't talk about this here. We needed some space between here before we could safely talk. If safe is even a thing anymore.
I find Troye in our dorm after my last class. He is engulfed in his own wings. I go over and pull one of his silky wings from his face.
"Let's get away from here," I suggest and help Troye up. He silently agrees and we fly calmly over a few miles of forest until Troye pulls me down into a clearing.
"Ok, Tyler. What do I do?" Troye says looking around anxiously and jittering.
"I don't know. Honestly all I can say is don't tell anyone until you know it's safe. We have a lesson on the different types of elemental angels tomorrow in ancestry. See if anything then helps and go from there," I offer.
Troye nods his head slowly, proceeding to step away from me.
"I want to see if it really was me," Troye says and tries to make something come up in his palm. As he gets more and more frustrated, the flames in his hands get bigger and bigger until it must be noticeable even among the trees.
"TROYE! TROYE, CALM DOWN!" I shout and start advancing towards the leaping flames. He quickly closes his palm, leaving only ashy smoke behind.
"I don't get what is happening?" Troye whispers, defeated.
"You were playing music. I assume you're very happy when you play music, right?" I ask, an idea forming in my mind.
"Well of course."
"Then think of something that makes you happy like that, a thought."
"I don't know, Ty. I'm a pretty negative person," Troye says and laughs weakly. He looks over to me then, his eyes glittering and pale against the overcast skies. I wish I could I hold his hands right now and meet him warm them. I wish I could kiss him right now. But we're just friends.
------
Troyes POV-
Tyler told me to think of something that makes me happy. Of course Tyler makes me happy. Maybe he'll let me hug him or something. No. That would be weird. Really the only other thing that brings me joy is music, so I sing. Softly at first but soon a enough I am belting out the lyrics to a familiar song. I refuse to open. My eyes until I feel something. I feel a tingling in my fingers and I open my eyes faintly. I look to my hands, little snow flurries dance along my hands. I smile up to Tyler and I am greeted by an equally ecstatic smile. I put my hands out and concentrate on imagining water. Soon, water is cascading around me and my hands are holding two balls of pure ice. I make the waterfall go away I and shoot the ice balls at nearby trees. They freeze solid, instantly and shatter. I jump, giddy and thrilled. I try one more water technique from class today the teacher was showing a few waters up front. I make a little cloud of storm rain around myself and laugh cheerfully. This is amazing. I fly up and and out of the whirlpool and glide in the air above Tyler. He is wam an admirable smile and bright eyes. I decide to test other stuff. Turns out I can make small wind tornados and change the air around me with the wind element, which also explains my naturally fast flying. The last element I try is earth. I'm actually really good at the already simple element. Earth was one of the easiest to perfect. Wouldn't take me long.
"Try the last one," Tyler whispers in my ear.
"Tyler only the guardians have the ethereal element."
"Hey I've seen it all today, doesn't hurt to try." Tyler says and throws his hands up in mock defeat.
I put my hands back out and concentrate. It seems like I stand there forever, even if it is only a fe minutes. Nothing happens for a while, the I feel a tiny spark. I don't even know what to expect with this anyway. The only things we knew about ethereals were only the very few guardians of our realm have them and it involves mortal world powers and supernatural influence powers. Basically enough to keep us scared shitless. So that tiny spark could've been it. It could've been my fire trying to show through. But that spark was something. Tyler is dragging me away before I have time to figure it out.
"We've been out here forever! Zoe just texted me and said they're going around and doing cabin checks and we should get back before they get to ours."
"Oh ok. But how did Zoe know we were out here?" I question, I thought we had a smooth exit.
"Oh she uhhhh she saw us leaving," Tyler says quietly and starts us on our journey back. The silence is no longer comfortable but strained. Tyler doesn't want me to know something.
