It had been weeks since Archie went to juvenile detention. Friends and classmates of the red haired boy were pretty much adjusted to the sudden absence of their student body president. His parents and girlfriend were still eagerly trying to find a way to prove his innocence. So far however, they were having no luck.
His sister Lexy was taking the longest to adjust to things. For days she didn't say a word. She sat on her window seat, blankly staring ahead of her, completely cut off from the world around her. Her constant need to hide her emotions had finally made her snap.
But as time went on, like her father had said, she slowly but surely began to come back. She would move around her room, she would take small bites of food, short conversations would be exchanged between her and her dad.
Now she was walking around her empty house, still no contact with the outside world, but more herself than she had been in weeks. As she sat on the couch studying nothing in particular on the wall stroking her dog gently, there was a sudden knock on the door.
She planned to ignore it. But as the knocking continued over and over again, she realized whoever was on the other side of the door was persistent. The brown haired girl stood up from the couch weakly and made her way to the door.
Her brother's girlfriend stood on the porch with a perky smile on her face, which was already more than Lexy had the energy for.
"What?" She asked dryly.
Veronica's smile faded at the sound of Lexy's indifferent tone. Although she knew the girl wasn't her biggest fan, she had never been so blatantly obvious about it. And she had never seen Lexy look so... empty? Like all the fire she usually had, had never existed.
"Uhhh, I just wanted to stop by and give you this." Veronica stepped through the doorway and handed Lexy a sleek, black invitation.
Lexy stared at it blankly.
"It's for the grand opening of La Bonne Nuit, my new speakeasy under Pop's. There won't be any real alcohol there, but the drinks, music and company will be to die for."
Lexy continued to stare at Veronica, who tried desperately not to stare back at Lexy. She was wearing a big, chunky cardigan and had messy hair tied in a low ponytail. It was different to her usual thick brown locks which hung around her shoulders, it looked thin and limp. She had dark circles around her eyes almost emulating a panda, and her skin was weirdly pale.
"Everyone will be there. I promise it will be the event of the season, worthy of your standards." Veronica tried to flatter her.
Did she not get on any level that Lexy did not care, and that all of her promotion tactics were only putting her off more?
"So what do you say, you wanna come?"
"Not really." Lexy replied shortly.
"But don't you think this would be the perfect opportunity for you to make an epic return?"
Lexy made her way back to the couch, still with an uncaring attitude. "No."
Veronica sighed and followed her into the living room.
"You've had your set backs this year. I get that. But just because Archie's gone it doesn't mean we have to put our lives on pause. It took me some time to realize that too but now look at me, opening a new business! I think out of anyone in Riverdale, I can relate to you the most."
Out of all the words Veronica could've chosen from, that particular combination was the wrong one. Lexy turned to look at Veronica and narrowed her eyes.
