Doctor's POV

I was dragged into the courtroom harshly (No surprise there I guess, all things considered) and shoved into a dense cage surrounded by what seemed like 100 sharp spikes.
"Bit uncomfortable," I muttered, shaking my head.
"*Ahem* Today, the officials of the Ministry of Magic have been gathered to put a man, presumably Barty Crouch Junior, on trial. Accused, how do you plead to the claim of your identity?" The Minister asked me.
"I am not Barty Crouch- I plead Not Guilty." I told him, head held up and confidence in my voice.

"And, furthermore, I'm sure that the Hogwarts population, students and teachers alike, can confirm this."
Fudge turned to face Dumbledore, and looked at him in a way that said 'is this true sir?'

"Yes, the Doctor has proved to myself and others that he is worthy of trust. He's been working in the castle for a year now, and despite initial suspicion, I believe that he's the complete opposite to Crouch Jr."
"Very well. Aurors, pass the veritaserum." They did so. "So, 'Doctor', do you agree to be put under the truth serum?"
"Yes, sir," I told him. It felt demeaning to call Fudge of all people sir, but it was necessary. Unfortunately.

He looked rather shocked for a second, but soon recovered.
"Aurors, administor the potion."
I drank a few drops of the potion and felt my eyes glaze over.
"First, a small test. Headmaster, is there anything you would suggest asking him?" The Professor debated it for a second.

"Yes, yes I do. Ask him what he used to look like."
"That... is a strange question, I'll admit. But, I digress: I asked, you answered. Doctor, what did you look like before this?" I paused for a moment.

"I've had many faces before his one. Would you like to see them all or just the one immediately before?"
"Many faces, you say? Hm. Yes, show the court all of them." I grinned internally.

"First, this. Until around 260 years old." I showed of my first form
"Then this one."
"I quite like this one. Anyway, 3."
"4." I showed them all of and by the end,  they were all pretty surprised.

"And, what made you choose these faces?"
"I didn't get to! See, where I come from, you can heal from imminent death, but at the cost of your appearance and personality. For instance, my first form was a grumpy old man, but my 5th joked a lot and just wanted to travel the world and play cricket. My 3rd often used physical violence as a defense and liked to drive around in a car."

"I understand. Or, well, maybe I don't. So what you're saying is it's purely a coincidence that you happen to look like this?"

"Yes, Minister."
"And.. what is your name?"
"I have many. You couldn't pronounce my birthname- shall we say, it's foreign- though I normally go by the Doctor, occasionally something else like John Smith. So call me the Doctor."

"You said you brought a friend with you, too?" I was sure he was just curious now, but I would be too. I couldn't really blame him.

"That would be me," the Master said, standing up.
"I go my either Harold Saxon or the Master."
"T-the Master? So people call you.. Master?" He nodded.

"Yep! It's not that unusual where we come from."
"Okay then.. and where exactly are you both from?" I found myself thanking Rassilon that he had common sense in Goblet of Fire.
