(Teacher really liked this chapter. Hope you enjoy)It was another hot summer day. Adam and I were both in our bathing suites, wrapped in towels as we stood in line at the concession stand. We stared at the menu board attempting to figure out what we wanted to buy to share. The decision was extremely hard.
"Fries?" Adam asked, looking at me. I thought for a second. I really wanted nachos but I know that Adam doesn't like them. I also knew that he would still eat them if we bought them.
"Yeah, we can get fries." I said. Soon I was shivering as the wind hit my wet skin. I felt a weight on my shoulders. It was Adam placing his towel over my shoulders. I gave him a look, as if to ask what he was doing.
"You're cold. Hopefully it will give you a little more warmth while we eat." He said and then paid for our fries. I was happy about how much Adam cared about me. Even the little things seemed to bring butterflies to my stomach. We made our way to the eating area and started eating. Adam was grabbing as many fries as he could and shoving them in his mouth. He always ate like that. Like he was never going to eat again. I grabbed one by one, eating slowly not wanting to get sick from being exhausted from swimming. Soon there was only a couple left.
"You want anymore?" Adam muffled out through his chewing. I shook my head. He then proceeded to gobble down the rest of the fries. We waited a little bit before heading back to get into the pool. Once we got in the pool, It felt much warmer than it did when we first got in. Adam and I enjoyed our stay at the pool. We went on the water slides and waded in the water, neither of us daring to go near the deep end. Adam always made excuses as to why he wouldn't go over there.
"I don't think my grandma would want me to." He would say every time, but I knew for a fact that his grandma has been wanting him to go to the deep end and try to swim.
After about 2 hours Adam and I were exhausted and ready to leave. We grabbed our towels from the eating area and made our way out of the gates at the entrance, making our walk to his house.
I woke up from my dream and stretched out, my hand going under my pillows and my body sinking more into my mattress. My eyes shot open. How did I get here? I could've sworn I fell asleep on the couch. And where's Adam? I looked over at my nightstand and saw a note sitting on the top. I picked it up and read it aloud.
"I didn't want to disturb you. I carried you to your bedroom which was kind of hard to find since I never officially got a tour of your house. I left the house around three in the morning and don't worry I locked the door behind me. When you wake up get ready cause I'll be there around 10 to pick you up to swim. See ya. Adam"
I looked over at the clock and noticed it was almost 10. I rushed around to find my bathing suite. About 10 minutes later I still could not find my bathing suite.
"Oh no! Adam will be here any moment." I said in a panic and continued to look around. Finally 5 minutes before 10 is when I found my bathing suite. I put it on and grabbed a swim bag putting my wallet, phone, and towel in it. Suddenly I heard my doorbell ring. I looked at the clock on the wall. 10 o'clock. Right on time Adam, I thought before opening up the door to see Adam already dressed in his swim attire.
"You ready?" He asked me motioning towards his car parked in my driveway. I nodded and we made our way into the car. Once we got in the car Adam seemed extremely excited and giddy, which continued through the whole ride to the pool. Once we got to the pool I stopped him before he could get out.
"Why are you so giddy?" I asked laughing slightly and how rushed he seemed to want to go inside the pool gates.
"It's been so long since I have been swimming Jess." Adam said, patting my leg.
"You haven't? Not with a girlfriend? Or You're family?" I asked. Adam shook his head.
"I've never had a girlfriend and my grandma was the only one who took me to the pool and she lives here and not in Indiana where we moved." He stated. My eyes widened in disbelief.
"Wait. Hold up. You've never had a girlfriend? Like at all?" I asked him a little louder than expected. But I couldn't help it. I was shocked.
"Nope. Not one." He said, shrugging, looking me dead in the eyes. I looked away, starting to feel embarrassed.
"I haven't had one either." I said still facing away from him.
"What? A girlfriend?" He asked, confused. I shook my head finally facing him.
"No silly. A boyfriend. I've never had one." I said and I saw the shock on his face appear. I laughed at his reaction.
"C'mon dork. Let's go swimming." I said and we hopped out of the car and made our way to the entrance to pay. Once we paid we put our belongings against a wall since there weren't many people at the pool. We both hoped in the pool, shivering at how cold it was. Suddenly I was smacked in the face by water. I whipped my eyes and looked at Adam who gave me a very guilty look.
"Adam! I'm going to kill you!" I said loudly, wading towards him. He had other ideas. He swam as fast as he could around me making it impossible for me to catch him. This continued on for an hour. Adam swam around me and me attempting to catch him.
"Adam, I'm tired." I groaned out. He stopped swimming around me and came up to me, putting me in a hug. Little did he know this was a trick. I pushed away from his hug and turned away from him.
"What's wrong Jessica?" He asked, concerned. I suddenly turned around and splashed water in his face. I kept splashing water in his face till he grabbed both my wrist making it impossible to move.
"You are going to pay for that." He said before lifting me up above the water. I screamed jokingly hitting his back.
"Put me down you 6 foot 3 monster." I said continuing to hit his back. He laughed.
"Not until you apologize." He said, continuing to hold me above the water. Next thing I knew I was being tickled by his free hand that wasn't holding me.
"Okay, okay I'm sorry. Now put me down you dork." I said between giggles. He finally put me down.
"Thank you." He said giving me a stupid grin. Out of nowhere, we heard a loud clap of thunder.
"That sounds pretty close." Adam said furrowing his brow. I nodded. We hopped out of the pool and went to our belongings to grab our towels. We decided that now would be a good idea to grab something to eat. I sat in the eating area as Adam grabbed our food.
Soon later Adam came to our table with some fries and nachos. I went through my purse to grab some money but Adam shook his head.
"Don't worry about it." He said and continued eating. We both ate our food in silence. Once we were done eating we packed up our things and made our way out of the pool gates. On our walk to the car it started to rain. I looked over at Adam as he grabbed his towel and draped it above both of our heads. I felt those swarms of butterflies attack my stomach and a heat rushed to my cheeks.
"Aw, you're blushing. Who are you thinking about?" He asked, smiling down on me. You, I thought to myself. I shook my head.
"No one." I said hoping he would believe me. He shrugged. We made it to the car and got in. We drove off, listening to the sound of the rain hitting the car. I didn't notice I drifted off to sleep until I felt large hands on my shoulder shaking me. My eyes fluttered open softly.
"We are at your house Jess." Adam said. I stretched out.
"I'm so comfy though." I said before pushing the seat back and closing my eyes. I heard a door shut and felt mine open shortly after. I saw Adam with my bag in one arm and my house keys in one of his hands. Soon I felt myself being picked up for the second time today and carried into my house. I was then dropped on my bed but before I fell asleep I heard Adam speak.
"Get plenty of sleep Jessica. I got lots of fun things planned for tomorrow. You're going to love it." was the last thing I heard before I was consumed by my dreams.
