It was an hour before dawn, and the four of us were still awake.

Since more than a thousand zombies were hanging around, we figured that at least 1 person had to be awake at all times.

This night, we decided that all of us would be awake.

I don't really even know why we chose to do this, but yeah. Dan, Jay, Stephen and I were pulling an all-nighter.

Today was the full moon. So it was an idea that we could have a spooky slumber party, whatever.

We were taking turns telling each other creepy urban legends.

Jay found this scary website his phone, and it was full of those kinds of stories.

And that's how the four of us were currently sitting in a circle, it being Dan's turn to read a story.

A candle, right in the middle of the human circle, was the only source of light in the living room, and it almost felt like a cult as Dan droned on about Hachishakusama-onna.

"I was awakened at 1AM, by a tapping sound on the window," Dan read off the website. "Then, came a knock on the door."

I watched as the flame of the candle flickered.

The only candle we could find in the house was one that smelled of cinnamon.

I could just barely detect the spicy scent.

Dan continued the story. "And I heard my grandpa's voice."

My eyes lingered intently at the wood nailed to the window, wishing I could see out of the barricaded glass. Feeling paranoid, I glanced back at the candle as if it would go out any second.

"Are you okay in there?" Dan's pitch changed to match the voice of an elderly man. "If you're scared, I can come keep you company."

My hands were tinted orange-gold from the flame of the candle.

Dan cleared his throat, changing his voice back to normal as he kept on reading aloud."Hearing his voice was such a relief that without thinking, I rushed over to the door."

I heard a sinister chuckle escape Jay, who was sitting beside me.

Glancing at him, the boy was wearing an evil grin on his face as he kept his eyes on the phone Dan was reading off.

"But something didn't feel right. I looked at the bowls of salt in the room." Dan said. "All four of them, had turned black.""

Goosebumps rode along my skin, and I felt uncomfortable as I shifted slightly.

"Ashes?" Stephen questioned. Jay shushed him.

"And then I heard the sound again," Dan paused to scratch his leg as he kept reading. "Po, po, po, po."

I held my breath, waiting for Dan to continue.

"The tapping on the window cont -"

A faint scratch at the door.

I froze.

Dan stopped talking.

There was thick silence as another more frantic scratch was heard.

"Did - Did you guys hear that?" I breathed out, staring at the walls of the hallway. The hallway led to the front door, which was where the sound came from.

"Yeah," Stephen answered. He sounded on edge as well.

Jay shrugged. "It's probably just a zombie, they keep multiplying like crazy."
