Izumi took her brother’s sword, and looked up at the sky with tears in her eyes and a determined face. “Izaki-nii, I swear on Shibuya’s name that I will avenge you.”

Izumi went to her room and kept the delicate sword in her cabinet, while taking cleaning tools to clear up the blood.

After she was done cleaning, Izumi did one last silent prayer for her family, before taking a quick shower and heading to bed after.

As she fell asleep, Izumi broke into cold sweat, mumbling and showing a face of discomfort.

Izumi’s POV
I was at home, but I saw Mother, Father and Izaki-nii. They were sitting at the dining table, talking cheerfully to each other while I stood at the side unnoticed.

When they turned their head and saw me, they immediately stood up and walked towards me. “I-I’m sorry…” I started tearing up as I felt her family wrap me in a warm embrace.

At first, I was surprised. It felt so real, just like how they hugged me in the past. Whenever I did something wrong, they always forgave me, no matter how big it was.

I started crying and hugged back. “I-I..” Before I could finish my sentence, Izaki-nii shushed me.

“It’s okay Izumi. You couldn’t do anything. He was a Hashira, and you’re just a normal human being with a few fighting skills.” Izaki-nii said in a soft tone, patting my head.

Just when I was about to say something, the floor beneath me vanished, dropping me into an endless abyss.

I tried to reach out to Izaki-nii, who smiled with tears. “You’ll find your way Izumi. I love you.”

Then I jolted awake as cold sweat trickled down my forehead. I looked ahead. “I swear, I’ll take revenge for you Izaki-nii.”

Narrator
Izumi looked out her window. It was dawnbreak. Getting up and changing out of her nightwear, she took her brother’s sword with her as she walked down the streets of her town.

She didn’t know where she should go, wandering around the streets. That was when someone tugged her sleeve.

Izumi was about to draw her sword when she spun around and saw her good friend, Sakaki Ryuu.

Ryuu is a childhood friend of Izumi’s, they grew up together and spent a lot of time together, whenever and wherever. Izumi hugged the small brunette, who was only 153cm / 5ft.

“R-Ryuu… M-my entire family is d-dead…” Izumi said, her voice trembling as she cried on the brunette’s shoulder. Ryuu was shocked.

“But I just saw them yesterday!” Ryuu exclaimed, patting Izumi’s head to comfort her. Izumi sniffed, wiping her eyes as she stood upright. “Long story short… they were murdered…” Izumi mumbled.

“It’s okay Izumi-chan, I’ll be here for you.” Ryuu hugged Izumi by her waist, when she felt a sheath.

Ryuu withdrew back and pointed at it, asking Izumi, “What are you doing carrying a sword around?”

Izumi looked at the sheathe and took out a beautiful, delicate sword. She smiled with pride, “This is my brother’s sword.” She said before her smile turned sad. “Which is the only thing I have of him before he left...” She placed it back into its sheath.

Ryuu looked up at Izumi, “Hey, if you ever need a place to stay, my family will welcome you anytime.” Izumi ruffled the brunettes’ hair, “It’s okay, I can survive on my own. I don’t want to trouble you.”

“B-but…” Ryuu wanted to say something in rebuttal, but was shushed with a finger to her lips. “No buts, and my decision is final” Izumi said, waving goodbye and walking off into the distance.

She kept walking, for how long, even Izumi didn’t know. She did not have any destination to head to, but she continued.

She continued on, until she found another town. Dawn was rising, she had to find a place to stay in for the night. “Will anyone let me stay in though.?” Izumi thought.
