The house was peaceful, only the crackling of the fireplace being heard. I didn't know what to say or do, instead, I wrapped the blanket (which Liam provided me with) tighter around my chilled body and stared ahead at the flares.
Everything about this moment was awkward. Liam was outraged at his sister for proceeding to see the boy he advised her to stay away from and Sabrina was furious because her brother truly believed he had a say in her love life. Nolan had put his mouth in as well, seeking to convince Liam that his intentions towards Sabrina were nothing but pure.I was the only moderately peaceful one. After my panic attack, my anxiety had dwindled and Sabrina supplied me with some warm garments to wear. It was absurd to consider that I was in Liam Finnegan's house. What the fuck was I doing here?
Liam retired with his arms crossed and glared at the floor. The frown appeared permanently embedded onto his features and I wondered what he was thinking about. I had an inkling that it was something to do with Nolan disappearing alongside Sabrina into her room to 'talk', leaving me alone with the crank.
Even though I knew I'd be awkward in the presence of Liam in his home, Nolan really liked Sabrina and I'd do anything to help my best friend. Unsure of how to pass the time, I reached for my phone until I discerned that: 1 – I wasn't wearing my own clothes and 2 – my phone was all the way in Nolan's car.
"Your friend better not be taking advantage of my sister," Liam spoke up first, his voice deadly and I could tell that he was solely concerned for his baby sister. Cheerleaders might have been stereotyped but so were soccer players. They were deemed to be womanising players which was why people found it so laborious to consider that Caleb was a qualified captain and not a douche.
The words Liam had just uttered managed to sting me because I knew that my best friend would never do such a thing. He'd never deliberately hurt a girl, physically or emotionally.
"Nolan's not like that." Liam nonchalantly turned to peer at me and I cleared my throat. "He'd never do something like that. If he likes Sabrina, he'll stick with her."
"He was outside her window," he deadpanned, face completely serious. His eyes were blank and there was not a flicker of a smile on his lips. "Making out with her."
I giggled, marking that it exasperated him because I was taking the situation so casually. "Nolan's spontaneous, I'll give him that. He's a huge romantic and I wouldn't be surprised if he showed up outside with a boombox." Crisscrossing my exposed feet beneath me, I shifted so I could view Liam. "He really likes your sister, Liam. Trust me on that."
