Driving back to Lateral I realize the long drive I have and how hungry I am. Between my late wake-up and the length of the meeting, I haven't eaten anything today. I've decided to stop at a local cafe that is well-known amongst my family. I can smell homemade bread from here down the street where I've managed to parallel park after what feels like my hundredth attempt. Immediately I'm bought back to my childhood, by the bread I mean, not the parallel parking.I am inside the cafe and can see Jane, the owner, and she greets me with a big smile. I see she seems pretty happy with seeing me but I assume it is because I haven't been here in about 6 months. Jane was my moms best friend, having had been around the corner from Moore Inc. they would meet up for lunch every day.
I quick catch-up with her. She hands me a cheese and pesto toasted sandwich and soya iced latte to go.
Arriving back at Lateral Uni with only about 3 minutes to spare before my business management class. I make the quick decision to park my car in front of the building where my class is at and then will have to come back for it later. Grabbing my bag from the backseat, I swing it over and proceed to knock over the last contents of my iced latte. I am shocked as I feel the cold liquid soaking into my white shirt. I have no time to think through an idea, so I take the shirt off and am being to make my way to class with the thin white spaghetti strapped vest I had under. I become aware of my surroundings, making eye contact with stormy blue eyes that I instantly recognize from this morning. I see a smirk attached to those eyes as my cheeks redden at the realization that Chad has just seen me half undress in my car. Ugggh, just my luck. I am still embarrassed, but manage to make it to the class 2 minutes after the warning bell. This class is new to my roster since changing my degree from design to business. I'm looking around I spot a few empty seats towards the back. Racing towards one of the seats just in time as the lecture begins.
"Good Afternoon students, today we will focus on..."
.....
Once class ended, I've decided to go back to my room. After the day I've had all I can think of is laying in bed and bingeing Spinning Out on Netflix. Although my thoughts are short-lived as when I arrive back. Tessa has other ideas as she begins to plead with me.
"Come on Ronnie, it's one party. You never come with and you are almost finished your paper for the end of the week in any case. Pleeeeease Ronnie."
One thing I've learnt about Tessa, she won't take no for an answer. Kind of the main reason I basically had to tell her that I am Veronica Tate-Moore. Before I can even think of a reply she begins again.
"Come on Ronnie, it will be..." Surprisingly I cut her off.
"Yeah, okay why not."
There's no point in arguing as I can always sneak out early when she becomes busy with the new fling of the month. I say this in the most loving way possible. Tessa is your typical college student of work hard, play harder.
She squeals at my response and runs to her wardrobe to see what outfit she is going to wear. I do the same and open my own wardrobe to inspect my options. My dad often gives me samples of many brands, so I have quite the collection. Tessa breaks my concentration as she asks for my advice on her mini black shorts, black boots, and long sleeve red lace top.
"You look stunning Tess," and I truly meant it. "You can use my Chanel red lipstick, it would compliment that colour perfectly," I added.
I must admit because of the background I have, I did know what my mom taught me about fashion. Turning back to inspect my own options and I've decided on black boots, a black high-waisted mini-skirt, and a Gucci sheer crop top from the new collection. Hoping because it doesn't have the actual words "GUCCI" plastered on it, no-one would notice it's value.
Turning to Tessa she approves.
"Yes, yes, yes!!! I'd go with the red lipstick too Ronnie."
She is now pulling out a bottle of champagne (I'd stolen it from one of the events I went to a few weeks ago) from our mini-fridge that we had sashed behind the microwavable meals and energy drinks leftover from a few late-night study sessions (I know- typical right?).
...
I smile thinking how long it has been since I've been able to have this much fun. Tess and I are in the process of having a full sing-along session to our latest favourite songs and before we knew it the bottle of champagne was gone.
Deciding it is time to leave for the party we leave our room and make our way across campus. I'm feeling slightly buzzed having drunk half the bottle whilst Tess the other. We've been walking for what feels like ages now but I can finally see the Phraft house where the party is at.
It is absolute chaos.
WOW, it's not even 10 yet and this party is in full swing.
I am seeing a few girls giggling at the doorway looking in the direction of the boys they are hoping to catch the attention of at some point of the evening. Taking a deep breath I start to follow Tess inside. I am immediately shocked at the loud thud of the music as if the speakers are right next to my eardrum. Tess, who is seemingly oblivious to the music, starts to pull my hand towards a keg and grabs us a beer each. She is now taking two jello-shots and downs both. She then picks up another two and passes them to me to seemingly do the same.
Thinking what the hell. I down the shots and wash the vile taste with half the beer that has somehow ended up in my other hand.
"You better slow down there."
I sense someone standing dangerously close behind me as they whisper these words in my ear.
Turning around I see none other than Chad Baker.
