"And that is everything you need to know for your upcoming paper due on my desk at 10 am on Monday morning," my supply chain lecturer said to a lecture full of students.
As if on cue the bell rang and the class was dismissed.
I had to get to Moore Inc by lunchtime to have my final meeting before I take over at the beginning of next month. The press has been notified that an important announcement is being made by the CEO of Moore Inc. regarding its future.
Last night I saw dozens of news feeds last non what people suspected the news to be.
I am nervous that the common consensus was that a new branch of the company could be opening, never mind a new CEO that was coming.
I had been working hard on my speech for the occasion and have had it edited countless times.
With the news circling, the questions and case studies in many of my business and economic classes had started revolving around Moore Inc. My classmates when asked thought the company was set to announce its way of securing its Forbes top 10 Industries ranking.
It wasn't all positive, with many faulting the way the CEO runs the business. I kept a straight face and even lower profile durning all classes.Luckily for me, the football team was due to have its first championship game on the same Friday so much of the school buzz was revolving around this.
As running out of class I felt my phone vibrating. It was Tess.
Hey girl, what time will you be home today? Mike and Chad are throwing a house party.
I reply quickly before hopping into the car and hearing the purr of my BMW as I press the engine button.
Around 9. You go without me, please don't wait for me. Don't think I am up to it, have two papers to write.
Tess replies instantly with a mom-like tone.
Girl, I am not taking no for an answer Ronnie. You've worked hard already and acing your classes. Ill pick out something cute for you to wear. See you at 9.
So a party it is then.
...
I can't do this.
What was I thinking?!
I'm not CEO material.
I am standing in the Moore Inc. bathrooms staring at myself in the mirror overwhelmed by the thousands of questions I was just asked at my first full board meeting. Looking at my reflection I can see my blue eyes watery and red, threatening to send me in an outburst at any minute.
"Just take a deep breath, Veronica. You can do this," I whisper to the reflection of myself.
Taking a deep breath in I examined myself fidgeting with the zip detail of my white jacket. I've paired it with the matching white skirt, black bodysuit, white Louis Vitton Boots, and a pink Gucci office bag.
Maybe the outfit does scream a little too Elle Woods for the corporate world, but I wasn't going to let my duty to this company jeopardize my style.
I wasn't able to wear this sort of outfit around campus so I've been using every meeting at Moore Inc. as an opportunity for my own little fashion show.
Come on Veronica, you've got this!
I walked out of the bathroom with secured confidence in my abilities and knowledge of the business world ready to take on the rest of the meeting.
