'Someone' was too hyper even though they should be in bed rn so I wanted to give them another chapter before I leave.
You might have heard of this phrase:
-That was so ooc of -insert a character-
Ah. That dreaded sentence that makes you realize you fucked up.
Certainly, a fanfiction is yours to play around with and morph into what you would want. However, I don't really think the readers would love it if their favorite character suddenly had another complete different persona.
That different persona from what they call ooc.
It's hard to avoid and really tricky. Some characters are easy to manage, some are challenging and some seem almost impossible. And it does vary from a writer to the other. For example, writer A might be struggling with Itachi's character but finds Ino's character quite easy to manage whereas writer B rather finds it easy but for them Ino's character is challenging.
Personally, I find Kiba and Hinata unbelievably hard. What about you?
I would like to focus on Sakura during this chapter. She is incredibly hated for Idk what reason and her character is almost always messed up.
Sakura's life doesn't revolve around Sauske 24/7. Not every single action she does or take is automatically related in one way or another to Sasuke.
She is absolutely not useless. She is a brave kunoichi who was ready to give up her life multiple times for her nakama. Getting her character represented as a love sick puppy who follows Sasuke around and picks a fight with the oc over Sasuke is really insulting.
She was only like that with Ino because they are rivals.
Please get her character right. And by that examine her through the series. She's simply amazing.
My next point is the 'cold characters'.
I found that most of the ooc characters are the 'cold ones'. In that category falls Gaara, Itachi, Sasuke, Kakashi, Shino, shikamaru ect..
Trust me when I say, they're not the type who would blush if they see your oc shirtless.
They are not as complicated as you think, you just have to read about them a lot on wikis. Watch them. How they speak. And hopefully, you can get it. It's not an easy task, I know.
Here are common ooc examples I stumbled upon quite a lot:
-Gaara being approachable before his fight with Naruto.
Not impossible but incredibly hard. He was a killing machine. One who wouldn't blink twice to kill his own sister and brother. I, personally, think that Gaara is unapproachable before his change.
-Itachi stuttering
No. Itachi's character is not one that would stutter. Never. Nervous is unlikely too, he has veins made of ice.
-Sasuke taking your oc with him when he left the village.
There is absolutely no way that could happen. Sasuke turned his back on his full village, the only place that would accept him as an Uchiha. He turned his back on his only friend, Naruto. The only girl he ever cared for, Sakura. And on the teacher who taught him his signature attack also known as Chidori.
He went to seek Orochimaru, to avenge his clan. His mind is clouded by hatred, spite and revenge. He would not take your oc with him.
And other things.
Character development is what's important. How was the character acting towards yours and how did they end up?
They could start of as a hate based friendship and later on they would become inseparable best friends.
It's the character development that determines it all. And take your time with it. Slowly, two chapters by two chapters, the character would warm up to your oc.
Keep in mind the question, would this cc do this?
Later on, I would speak on character development for your oc. Until then, see ya.
